I have been in the business for over 15 years and I have witnessed the boom in Internet shopping and people running online companies selling product. Over that time Royal Mail have introduced products to help these people however I see more and more people abusing the system. We have opened it up for people to literally print money. People pay online to send a packet then photocopy the 2d barcode and change the address. This only comes to light when a customer has ordered two items from the same supplier and you try and scan the items separately. Your PDA will tell you item already scanned when you try and scan the second item. If these item are sent to different address then they would scan as normal. It you look on Amazon or ebay you see hundrends of item being sold from a UK address with free P&P. The overall cost is usually cheaper than the postage alone. PPI mail was also another way of the public conning the system. Yes you can say only accept mail with the correct paperwork but what does that paperwork actually tell you? Have you got time to count and check the size and weight of ever item? The paperwork can also be doctored. I seem to be only one of a handful of people in my office who is passionate about this. We are constantly being told how we have to work harder, suffer constant change and now our pensions are in the red. If we stopped people from sending items for free maybe we wouldn't be in this mess.

Surely when that happens you bring them back and send them off to revenue protection?

Yes I do but that is only when they are they same address. How many items do we deliver that we have no clue if it has been paid for not. When I send items to revenue protection even though they are all marked up for revenue to deal with, the next day they arrive back in my office. No information about it or anything. The only option I am left with is either send it back to revenue protection or deliver it.

Noticed large increase of oversize packets having small parcel labels.
Maybe list of postage costs/dimensions/weight in each office would help.
Does seem like some people are at it. But how many posties would really know what to look for.

I've had a few instances of a large high street retailer, which had sent two large tracked signed required parcels, both with the same barcode?

So next time I get two packets with the same 2d I should inform the manager, that's good to know I have had it happen a few times and just delivered the items.

Why isn't this picked up earlier? They get scanned at the Mail Centre.

MCs will have multiple people scanning so unless both get scanned by the same person it won't get picked up on.

They can tell my manager how many barcodes I have, but not if two are the same?

I think this should be Mail Centre issue, instead of lumbering the poor posty with even more work and responsibility.

Can't see anything being done about it in MCs, we don't have the staff or time

Perhaps we should sort out our own fraud espically in dely then other ggings would get sorted no pun intended give u one fraud that goes on people coming in early on ips on o/t then going home up to 2 hours early cause they keep sneeking back to there frames i know its poor management but there not always there

IF they get scanned at all - many don't.

Don't get me started on PPI/Meter - this company has lost millions over the years on this - it's so easy to get away with.

It is so frustrating. I could start a business tomorrow and not pay a single penny for postage. If I can do it anybody can do it. The training to staff about fraudulent postage does not exist. I am sure with the 2d's we can have a one scan. All the 2d's would have to be on a datebase once a 2d has been scanned by a delivery PDA then that 2d is then void. If somebody else tries to scan an item with the same 2d somwhere else in the country they get a prompt on their PDA saying. "2d barcode invalid, item already scanned please send to revenue protection"

The new PDAs don't do anything different when the same tracked code is scanned twice on processing so there's no way to really know without reading the number. You can scan the same item 5 times and it counts it as 5 items scanned, no objections. At least the old PDAs used to make that error noise.
