Scanning an item is now so slow before it registers on the PDA . Is it the machine or is the network causing it to be so slow?

The first scan seems to take an age to show up on the screen. If you have multiple scans the rest are instant! Very odd and very disappointing they're like that after so much development!!

Slow.

Over sensitive touch screen and buttons, constantly going to unwanted screens at the slightest touch.

signature capture screen not working if the customer rests their hand on it whilst trying to give their signature.

Resting hand on screen was a problem with the old PDAs too.

I've found the best way to get a signature when a customer struggles to hold the pen without resting their hand on the screen is to ask them to use their fingertip very lightly instead. Works every time then.

As for them being slow to register the first item scanned, it's all of a five second delay. If you've hit the bell and started to scan while waiting on the door being answered (or not), I don't see that it's cause for major complaint.

They are overall far better than the bricks we used to use. You'll get used to them. If they are being particularly slow, try rebooting them via the power button. Like modern phone a, they benefit from being turned off and on every so often

5 seconds doesn't sound like much but when you combine it with a few hundred scans a day on a busy day it then becomes a issue! They had a long time to develop these and, whilst they are better than the original, they are still pretty rubbish! I mean who designs the software for these things and doesn't even put delivery to neighbour as a delivery option? Cheap rubbish as per usual for RM!

The scanners are well below what's required for delivery work. Only rivalled by the fact new cradles were fitted in the vans but not wired up. They'll live to regret that when the batteries start ageing/failing in 2 years time.

What? Most 2D scan items don't require a door-knock. So it's just 2-3 (not as long as five, usually) seconds wasted. Over an average of about 60 items per day that need a non-knock scan, it's 'only' a few minutes. A few minutes that most deliveries now don't have leeway for.

But wait til letters need scanned too. Most mailsort and many items from downstream access already have 2-D codes that scan. That will add at least half an hour, probably longer onto most deliveries.

I stand corrected on the time it takes for the first scan to appear and the amount of time lost to it.

2D codes appear on most tracked items, items that have entered via the Post Office and postage paid online.

Not everything with a 2D code will actually fit through a letterbox. Then there is the issue of a 2D code not recognising a signature is required but the signed sticker or special delivery sticker indicating otherwise.

Love them or hate them, they are what we are stuck with for now, so best to learn ways to work with them, like we all did with the old ones. One good thing is the faster reboot time, but I don't how often it is used because the batteries don't tend to fall out when you drop them.
