help with sick and managers

called in to work sick monday with bad stomach down to drugs i am taking for a problem with my back got a call back the same day saying if i not back in by thursday i will have to go in for a meeting with the area manager about my absence.
so i spoke to the cwu about this they have told me i do not have to attend this meeting they called me again today saying the same thing i told them what the cwu had told me all i got is well thats up to you if you do not attend you will get a phone call from him and you will have to explain why i did not attend its just stressing me out now i am awaiting a emergency mri on my back which i have told them about but they do not seem to care about the staff any more.

You can self certificate for a week and then need a doctors note after that but they should NOT contact you if you have followed absence reporting procedure and you do NOT have to attend a meeting until you return to work. This is harassment and not allowed.

I have they told me not to attend and say I will have the meeting at home just more stress

All you have to do is tell them you don't agree with it. Tell them you will keep them updated on your recovery and when you expect to be back by telephone. They cannot force you into an interview at home or elsewhere. Don't be bullied.

get area rep involved asap and get him to speak to the dim as its causing you stress , you've informed him/her that your ill , end of , anything else is harassment because your entitled to a week self cert . then you need a doctors note , don't let it stress you out.

When they tried that with me I asked them what the purpose of the meeting was.

''Just to discuss your absence and see how we can support you in returning to work''

''ok thats fine, lets discuss now over the phone''

1st time I have had this problem they used to be fine looks like things have changed

As already stated your absence to be covered by a self-certificate for the first 7 days of absence and thereafter with a GP " fit note" with the appropriate boxes ticked with GP recommendations. Set up contact details for remaining in contact during your absence as per the attendance procedure and this is sufficient means of checking your progress without a home visit. Business will ask for your consent in a referral to OH Assist and the telephone interview and the symptoms you describe will allow them to report back to RM of your medical condition and once again a home visit is unnecessary. The attendance procedure does mention that " BY" the 28th day of absence a face to face interview has to take place and it seems that RM management are interpreting this to their advantage by the inclusion of the word " BY" and not for what it was intended. Get your union rep involved that their pressuring you for a meeting is aggravating your condition.

Go off with stress. Everytime they do something like this, add another 2 weeks to the sick time.

Our Area rep let's them bully people into going for these sick surgery's .They have them every Friday in our craphole.
