It's the bosses private car,I didn't think business insurance allowed taking mail from a to b.

LTBs aren't for managers as the CWU doesn't represent them. Managers can use their own cars as long as they have permission from the business and the correct insurance. With the withdrawal of the Bond OPGs no longer have the permission needed to use PCODs so even if they have the correct insurance, its not worth the paper its printed on.

Aaah, got it TBT, bet half of them haven't got insurance though, the number of times it's a last minute job bringing delayed SD's and odds and sods.

You might want to call the local blue bottles and say that you are concerned that you have seen someone delivering mail from the back of a car. Just doing your public duty.

I thought that`s a good thing, but apparently is not?

They are not legally insured to carry out this work unless they have business insurance on their vehicle which covers also the carriage of their employers goods. Royal Mail will also have had to authorised them to use their vehicle for this work and provided cover under there own business risk cover.
If this is not the case then the Manager is using a vehicle which has incorrect insurance cover which is contrary to the Road Traffic Act and is illegal.

Oh well, perhaps because I`m still new, I`m seeig things differently.
If a walk needs to be covered and no one else can do it, I don`t see the harm if the manager does it.
At least he helps and sees for himself how hard it is to do a walk...
Regarding driving his own car, being illegal or not is not my problem, but the job being done is more important in my view.

As I said, I`m still new and I like the job. And I see things differently, I like to help and to do my job proper, not to be a runner.

To be honest it's not really helping anyone having managers out delivering mail, it's bad for the image of the company, it's a health and safety problem, it masks resourcing issues and in most cases since the manager is unlikely to be up to date with procedures and blind on the delivery it's very likely to lead to complaints for misdeliveries and failure to scan incidents.

But as long as he feels useful eh?
