Voting on 1 in 6 saturdays, has this happening to you?

Apparently our office is going into vote to go from 1 in 4 saturday's off to 1 in 6, not sure when it's going to happen but the idea is to increase part time hours and reduce upto 3 staff. Being low in seniority i'm a bit worried about this although I have been told the vote probably won't swing in the favour of the 1 in 6 because full timers clearly wouldn't benefit.
When they mean get rid of 3 staff do they mean shift us on to another office or lose our jobs? Everyone is on permanent contracts and although this dispute could take upto 2 years i'm tempted to try and transfer to another office (or at least try if a vacancy comes available)

They may be willing to transfer you and this should form part of a preference exercise if the revision goes ahead. However, they may offer EVR to senior staff so no one may need to go.

The good news is that RM have always been forward in their promise of no Compulsory Redundancies for OPG grades, so getting the sack is a remote possibility.

Chances are it's a paper exercise because royal mail policy at the moment is for offices to carry vacancies and absorb/lapse the hours so although I don't know the specifics of your office I would imagine the proposed headcount reduction will simply mean the vacancies if you have any won't be filled.

If there is a surplus, redundancies should be offered in line with the MTSF agreement.

stick to your 1 in 4
anything they offer or promise or even facilitate will be removed or absorved later on
in the next arrangements they come up with
stick to your guns you may need your 1 in 4 as bargaining tool in later years

We had a vote the other way! My DO works on a 1 in 6 Saturday Off. The reason they originally voted for this was to protect more jobs in the DO (I believe they must have been FT jobs or it wouldn't have gone through), so at least the usual selfish bastrds must have been thinking of someone else for a change.

Due to several Revisions since that vote most of the staff are now FT (still got a few PT). I personally thought it'd be a GOOD IDEA to move to a 1 in 4 Saturday Off system. We had a vote and to my surprise, if not everyone elses, the majority voted it out. So we're stuck on 1 in 6.

I don't know what the motivation was to keep the current system but I did hear a few people chatting about saving jobs (which I don't believe it would have effected...just caused a lot better organistaion on the DOMs part)

One guy did say he actually preferred 1 in 6.

I said FFS I'm sure someone would have swapped if you didn't want your Saturday off.

They blackmailed us into voting 1 in 6 rather than 1 in 4 saying 3 full timers would lose their duties or be shifted to another office etc! It's all a blag go for 1 in 4.

Same as our office. We went from nine day fortnights (brilliant shift) to 1 in 4 then they got 1 in 6 in on the promise of more full time for part time. I hate 1 in 6.

You'll find a lot of Pters NEVER get a Saturday off (even if they're working 39 hrs) because the DOM just doesn't factor it in. They've really got to kick & scream if they want one.

The 1 in 4 Saturdays in my office are covered by part-time 3 day week staff who rotate Thursday-Monday so they cover the 1 in 4 for full-time staff and themselves get 1 in 4 Saturdays as well as being off every Tuesday and Wednesday.

That sounds a bit too sensible to me FT ......are you sure a RM Manager worked that out?
