heaviest day tomorrow

there's just been a gaffer on the news on the radio (north east). he was saying they are expecting over 3 million items of mail and packets tomorrow just for our area alone. he said at Tyneside APC (mail centre) there are 700 staff at work and 500 casuals. is it going to be the same up and down the country I wonder?... anybody else heard owt?

We had an appalling Wednesday and today was even heavier! Our office has passed parcels over to tomorrow... can't begin to imagine an even worse day than today.

Well down here in the South I have just watched the local news which ran an identical story but at Bristol.
500 extra staff in to handle the 3 million items which will be passing through tonight.

Has every mail centre been given the same figures to churn out to the media?
Tomorrow will be fun, all that extra on top of all that rolled over from today

It annoys me, yes we all moan about busy days but surely we all know well in advance that at Christmas it will be busy

This is a given, yes it is hell and yes we are all knackered. but we know this will happen

I always look at Xmas in this way, it's not for us it is for the customers - the ones that keep us in a job by using our service - it's not a given anymore so yes it is busy and it is s**t but this is what we do

just annoys me a bit when people moan about being busy at this time of year - I mean FGS

which is why I asked....our DOM said..... its just going to be a normal day. why do they consistently come out with this kind of reply? are they taught to lie and keep a straight face?

by the way, it wasn't a moan. I've been working til about 6 in the evening most nights since the pressure started on the 30th November. I love the big wage packets at this time of year. and we get our bonus next week so its even better than normal overtime

actually no, you dont have to knacker yourself out to provide a good service. You just have to work the same as the rest of the year - that is to an acceptable level - and thats it. Management should be staffing offices sufficiently to cope with the extra workload, not expecting people to work over their contracted hours especially those that do not wish to and are pressured into it. If the managers do their job then the customers will be kept happy. The fact is management try to do xmas on the cheap every year.

This is the first time in 18 years I'm not doing the Xmas pressure and I'm certainly not missing it! It seems like the same old story in delivery offices up and down the country! For what it's worth you have my sympathy and respect! Keep going it'll soon be over. All the best Mark.

I'm in south Devon and was told Monday will be heavy... Im on a walking route so everyday for Christmas is heavy to me lol

Regardless of how busy it is, your finishing time is your finishing time!

You can't on 1 hand be going on about how busy it is, whilst on the other hand gobbling up all the overtime going!

The busier it is, the better it is for us all, regardless of the time of the year. Being busy does not obligate you to work past your finishing time.

Quite rough on IPS last few days, cutting off with thousands off Xmas cards still to do only for the acting to sort them while we are gone.
But it's ok as he is actually an OPG so it's oficially allowed
