More importantly , Do you have the correct insurance in place to drive to another location besides your usual place of work for business purposes?. If not you may well end up losing your licence if you was involved in an accident etc. mileage would be the least of your worries. Approach with caution.

Take notice of the above. Once you arrive at your normal place of work, leave your car there, it is up to RM to get you to and from anywhere else. Unless of course you have business insurance.

i dont want to kick up a fuss and be singled out as a trouble maker, i do as im told i just want to know what exactly im entitled to, and what to claim once im back at my DO,

also the route to the other DO is not along the way of my current DO i have to take alternative routes to get there besides i dont want to be a hinderenace at the office im sent to, as im there to help and complete the same duty for a week, there sick count is well to put it gently almost 40% of the DO is off sick

I have been in the same office for 17 months but received a phone call 40 minutes before my start time telling me to go to an office 15 miles away!!!

I was expected to use my own car and go straight there from home. I told them I wasn't insured and told them to get lost. Said I'd be happy to work there if they transported me there and brought me back within my working hours as I wasn't going a minute over.

For working at another office you don't claim travelling time. You travel in paid time so you claim it as overtime if you are outside your working hours (with prior permission granted of course).

I understand you don't want to make a fuss but would you normally drive your car with no insurance? Because that is what you'll be doing
Have an accident and your DOM will do NOTHING to support you,
Your choice.

so the person im partnered up with will have to wait a further hour before i can get there and get out the door at 12pm,, his duty finishes at 2/3 we wont even complete one of the two walks we have been tasked with, dont you think that is unfair on him, i dont want to make anyones life difficult especially at the heaviest time of year and i have been sent to help out.

im a team player and traveling in paid time is simply against my principles , same as me driving to my do and wanting RM to work some magic and get me there, this year we have seen a huge cut in hire vans for parcel duties , no vans are spare in my DO , creating issues for me is like rubbing against the grain.

what happened to unity and ties of kindred, we are essentially a team after all.

It isn't about"making a fuss" ,it's about asserting your rights and entitlements,if they want you to work at another office, by all means go there, but make them aware it is their responsibility to get you to an alternative place of work. Take heed of the advice re insurance, beware of the consequences of any accident you may have, especially as you may have invalidated your insurance.

if i get insurance coverd, what can i claimn,

if i opt to take public transport then what?

i mean where is there any clear documentation regarding this as these things do happen and we should all be well informed yet i cant seem to find anything, like i said im there for a week, its not short notice i was informed that i would be on loan, i can understand on the day if i was informed but that is not the case here.

if i was informed on the day that im going elsewhere then i would like to take a van, or get a lift which is both unlikly then i could travel in my time as the clock already started when i got to work at my DO but im there for a week, been given notice so its basically upto me hwo i get there but i would liek to know what am i entitled to claim as im traveling further away from my home and taking more time to get to the office i've been loaned to and possibly paying for a small supplement on insurance to cover me if anything bad does happen while im traveling there.

You need to contact your car insurance provider and ask them about being covered in the specific circumstances. If you currently drive to your normal DO you must have "commuting" on your policy. Tell them that you will be commuting to a different place of work for a certain period and will be claiming for the journey from your employer. Your insurance company are the only ones who will be able to tell you if you are covered, and/or whether you will need to pay an extra premium.

No one on this forum can give you a guaranteed answer to that part of your question as different insurance companies have different policies on this. Do not take the word of anyone at your DO as they will not know the correct answer and you could be liable for their misinformation.

Pay and claims etc was part of my previous job and it was an area that many people got wrong - and you will only find out it is wrong if/when it goes tits up!

Hey you don't want to claim what you are entitled to then fine, doesn't bother me. Working in another office is covered by an agreement. Travelling is counted as part of duty time, but we can't force you to claim your rights.

They don't have to work any magic - if you have the correct insurance you can drive and claim mileage. If you don't and the Police stop you and check your insurance your car will be impounded. If you are not insured and the business want you in another office they can send you in a van, with a van or by public transport.
lightningpostman wrote:what happened to unity and ties of kindred, we are essentially a team after all.
We are, but what about RM fulfilling the agreement thats in place for these circumstances. Why should you be out of pocket when the system is there to ensure you don't incur any abnormal costs.
lightningpostman wrote:if i get insurance coverd, what can i claimn,
From Royal Mail - Nothing to do with the insurance. But travelling to another office in your car during paid time will get you a mileage allowance (45p per mile IIRC)
lightningpostman wrote:if i opt to take public transport then what?
You don't opt. They instruct you, and if they say to use public transport then you claim the fare back.

How much clearer than

That quote covers your travel time, mileage claim and fares.
