Quality equipment, does it exist at Royal Mail?

Can anyone name a piece of quality equipment in use in Royal Mail?

I can't think of a single thing, from uniform to PDA's, to pens, rubber bands and vans all crap.

The HCT trolleys are especially dire... crap locks and lids that break, tyres that fall off the rims if you go down the kerb wrong, unbalanced design that tips over backwards if only the back half is loaded, brakes that give up downhill on heavy days.

I'm trying to think... can anyone think of a decent bit of equipment, no matter how small?

Our vans are fine thanks, nice new fleet. Peugeot not my first choice of car but I'm more than happy to have it as a works vehicle.

Still using old PDA'S, Been told when they go flat over Christmas we can go back to pen and paper and not worry about scanning bar codes

You couldn't make it up.

No,vast majority of our vans are vauxhall combi's which are too small,nearly impossible to get out of if parked next to a high kerb and likewise very difficult to work out of the side door alongside a high kerb,LWT wheels are hard to wipe dog s**t off because of the design,uniform mostly gash,however the belt is ok.

The redirection and damage bags aren't too bad, apart from them the equipment is pretty poor/crap/useless/cheap/unsuitable.

I like the waterproof trousers, but it took me a while to get ones that weren't the size to fit an elephant!

The bog roll and handwash are also normal commercial quality stuff your find in chain restaurants, so not bad at all. The bog roll also never seems to run out, unlike 739 cards and rubber bands. I think the 739 card rationing thing might be a deliberate ploy to try and make you deliver first time.

Yeah they are a complete joke. Last time I did a van share in a Vauxhall combi, it was a heavy day and the van was almost rammed to the top with bags and parcels. It was a nightmare trying to find anything because everything became jumbled up as we drove. Honestly I think we wasted 30mins unloading and reloading bags and rummaging through them. US mail vans have seperated compartments in the back to stop this sort of scenario.

In all my years they have failed to come up with a basic coat that it is actually waterproof. Ive ended up buying my own and even a cheap £6 ebay rain coat keeps you dryer.

PDAs = sh*te
Trainers = sh*te
Bands = sh*te
folding trolleys = just short of sh*te
vans are subjective Bippers are sh*te
Shorts/trousers = sh*te
red shower jacket = subsh*te
Orange 'waterproof' = mediocre at best
pouches = OK
Mail cart/secure trolley = OK
baseball cap = OK
Beanie = OK
sh***s (light blue) = Good
Polo shirts = Good
Boots = OK if DM's
Torch = never out that late

Old Lightweight Cat trainers = Good.

No ones mentioned the vending machines, we have a swanky new one ,not sure its technically classed as equipment.
But for a fair and reasonable price you can buy a can of pop and a double decker and still get a few pence change from a fiver. It may even be better value than the ones at Heathrow.
Some times it's reluctant to let go of it's bargain stock ,but with a firm shake it usually let's go.
We also have a lovely 50" led TV i've yet to have time to see if it works but it looks very smart hung on the staff room wall.
