This P/L doesn't work anymore on most days due to the amount of parcels per loops.
There are only so much you can fit in a trolley. When we had our revision they were saying we would only get an average of 4 parcels per loop so 7 loops X 4 equals 28 parcels.
On our Council estate round we are getting 4 packet bags full of parcels per frame each on most weds and thurs and they are wonder why we are struggling .
The driver has to keep breaking off from delivering the large parcels to go back to his partner mid loop to give him another bag and this ultimately slows everything down.
Why don't RM go back to single person duties as it is a hell of a lot easier quicker and would save the company thousands in O/T due to cut offs with this slower way of doing things

mate....I had a "discussion" with our d.o.m the other day....
all the walks were revised about 4 years ago....based on X amount of mail,,,,and X amount of parcels.
parcels amounts have risen sharply and not just because its xmas....but in general.....yes letter figures say there falling but most of the time it doesn't feel that way.
sooooo the moan from me was its taking a heck of a lot longer to attempt to get rid of the parcels now....that the duties wernt planned for.
to be fair he did admit I was right.....but LOL carry on LOL
take away a Tuesday and the rest of the week we don't have time to try a neighbour.

Do you know what this must be happening up and down the country as its the same in our D/O.
The biggest bug bearer of mine is that the CWU were part of implementing these changes in each D/O.
Doesnt the are rep have to sign each stage off,why would a responsible union knowingly implement changes knowing its going to fail.
I believe Royal Mail and the union think we have had it easy for years and were scared of days work.
We are not scared of hard days work we dont mind change ,what we do mind is being worked to death.
Its now the responsibility of each D/O to make a stand ,we in our office have started.
We have copies of the call rates and percentages photocopied and displayed on the fittings. This tells you how many Del points you have ,what your % of mail is for the day and how many packets you have and there all wrong. It does not include your D2DS .
This information gives you the power to hit back at your DIM with clear evidence when seeking a ruling get to know and understand your call rate and percentages.
You can not beat your staff with a stick telling them you have this percentage of mail when actually its a lot higher, its such and unfair system.
We are counting everything and let me tell you the figures do not add up ,we have even discovered the sequence count is out especially when you get to wednesday onwards.
The evidence can only come from us Royal mail will listen to nothing now, unless you can produce evidence and sadly we can not expect others to gather this information apart from ourselves.
Remember what we have always been told we are the union so lets start gathering our data in each D/O call in the area rep and lets try and change this crazy status quo we are enduring.
Phew im stepping down now off my soap box now .

We are regularly getting so many packets that they and the post will not fit into 2 bags on certain loops, and the driver has to go round and get rid of some.
The crazy thing is that RM say there targeting the expanding parcel market but seem to make no provision at all for delivering them. Even before the pressure period the large parcels for my round often won't fit into a York let alone adding the packets that are expected to go in a loop bag which must average 8-12 per loop and on a busy day can be 20 plus.
Local managers just seem to shrug their shoulders and wander around doing nothing about it, or if they are doing something about it don't communicate it to our level.

Only if you don't cut off , after 40 mins meal relief IPS and sorting your round and packets D2D's and Large parcels there will be nowhere near 6 hour for a deliveryJefferson Starfish wrote:That's what they want to do isn't it? What is the dom expected to do though? Other than making sure you deliver it. They know there is more and more parcels. They cant change that. But they are under pressure to make you work as hard as you can to deliver in time with as little overtime as possible. Or they wont get their bonus. And a grilling from their boss.
Im afraid the whole lot has gone pear shaped. Park and loop doesnt work..and in some delivery office they managed to get away with no doing park and loop... and the rounds are horrendous. Im afraid its much deeper rooted.

There needs to be a better form of communication between us and higher level managers who should be dealing with the problem.

Perhaps we need to go back to the days when posties delivered letters and postmen/drivers did pouch drops, bulk mail, specials, packets and a collection.
How much worse can it get? A LOT F****** WORSE !!!

^^ This.
A pain and additional time to do but... Its probably the most effective set of numbers in the whole business. Powers in your hands, don't rely on whats being fed to your DO about volumes and mails down etc.

Going back is a step backwards? so you say "it will save RM thousands" so they will have to start paying out shops/Post Offices a payment again for bag drops as most offices still have a lot of non drivers, it seems to me you want a van on you're own if you were in my office and cried to the Dom you would succeed, there are more single duties on their own than doubled up in my place plus the single duties do not absorb. piss takers they are Wed, Thurs, Fri they work to their time Mon, Tues, and Sat they are flying.eastie wrote:This P/L doesn't work anymore on most days due to the amount of parcels per loops.

If they do (I think you're right but I'm not certain), then perhaps ignorance (how many have actually done a duty for a full week in the past 6 years?), possibly a rather wishful-thinking approach that if there is massive failure then RM will have to change their approach, possibly just not really being bothered (how many of them will have to actually deliver in the next six years?).Doesn't the area rep have to sign each stage off,why would a responsible union knowingly implement changes knowing its going to fail?
In my view the CWU often pursues its own agenda (for instance not wanting anyone to work 6 day weeks with one week in 6 off, rather wanting everyone on rotating days) rather than representing all of its members/RM workers as it should and reps don't actually consult widely (scheduling union meetings for late afternoon generally ensures low turn out though I grant you that finding a time that encourages many to attend would be pretty hard. But perhaps in the modern age it might be easier to rely not mainly/exclusively on such meetings . . .
