Nearly everyone to become reserves!

I heard today that when 6hr deliveries and one wave are introduced the top 20 senior members will be full time and everyone else will become reserves.

Anyone heard anything similar to this?

Im a reserve so no odds to me! I havent heard that to be honest.

So Royal Mail never fails to disappoint. Instead of keeping us informed they elect to paint the blackest picture possible (and sometimes so does the CWU) and then when it turns out not that bad, some think we have dodged a bullet.

Reserve = do any duty, go any office, work any 5 days. Maximum flexibility.

And there's talk duties won't exist as we know it either. Come in and get given a computer assigned amount of work to do.

Not heard that, but I've just moved to a new office and I've been very surprised at the level of ''flexibility'' the opg's are willing to show... even old timers who have been on the same duty for 20+ years regularly find themselves moved onto different duties for odd days or full weeks and they just seem to get on with it without objecting.

I didn't consider my old office to be particularly militant but there is no way most of the duty holders would allow themselves to be treated like reserves, especially the old timers.

If one-wave does come in realistically you can say good-bye to having sequenced mail

well that will INCREASE indoor hours then, the exact opposite of what they want.

Are you sure they weren't working rota week for OT or day off for OT?

That's the only time I ever saw a duty holder work a different job.......even that was rare as when they volunteered for working days/week off they kicked the poor reserve off who was covering their round. I'd come in, expecting to work X duty I was allocated to for the week, only to find the b*gger throwing it off and me getting shoved onto something crappier. That REALLY used to pee me off. In fact the more I think about it the more I realize just what a horrid job being a reserve is, the stress.

Gets right on my nerves this. We end up perpetuating this rubbish all the time and in doing so, we create the instability they desire.

Its time we woke up and started realising our value to the company and in doing so, taking back our rights that we have so meekly given away in the past few years.

Precisely. Anyone remember the hullabaloo when D2D payments were removed as well as the cap on 3 per week? All hell rightly broke loose and so to quell and pacify the ire someone, somewhere calculated and circulated the rumour that 'they will come pre-prepared in one envelope'. Subsequently the changes agreed and lo and behold, 7 D2Ds potentially, no envelope or any combining method and most front line foot soldiers sold a pup. The bottom line is that every single change that RM have instigated or imposed in recent years has had a negative effect on the working conditions and quality of life of the majority of postal workers and I have no reason to suspect that the corporate mindset will ever tip the balance in our favour. Heads they win, tails we lose.

Too many chiefs, not enough indians, always will be, and while the same chiefs are still in power, it will head down the pan further than it is now.

Scrap all these wonder walls, charts, graphics, linos, graduates, computers etc and get EVERYONE ON THE STREETS ,winning back business, you can see how many different couriers there are nowadays, and this is the very business RM have GIVEN AWAY!

Not really the right words - partly due to unfair competition being forced into the market but mainly due to slave labour self-employed piecework couriers/delivery drivers, in-house operations like Amazon and other companies like Yodel/FedEx/DHL paying workers on short-term or zero-hours contracts hourly rates so poor they'd be green with envy at RM's conditions and pay rates. Like it not, that's true. If they had a tangible Union presence then maybe it'd be a more even labour market in logistics.

Its a totally bonkers idea

Being a reserve is one of the more stressful roles in Royal Mail, so why make the problems worst by creating even more of them?? Having been a reserve I honestly believe that better organisation and planning needs to happen when it comes organising the staff rota's. Royal Mail may well think that if there are more reserves in the office that they can plan the shifts easier might just be the case on paper, - but it won't be without an increase in operational issues and staff disgruntlement.
