Could somebody explain how the amount of prep time a walk gets is caculated

In many cases, it's a case of pull a fictional figure from a hat that gives the DSM the saving he/she wants, which is then put on the 318 to go alongside other indoor work like IPS time.

The workload changes on a daily basis, no two days have the same split of letter/flat quantities; call rate; D2D prep; quantity/ call rate of parcels; how many DTNs are you going to have to lose time on etc.

The formula and process is all part of the indoor work tool. However, its a planning and resourcing tool, not a dictate written in stone. If it takes you more than the plan, or less, then there is nothing they can do officially.

I was hoping there was some kind of formula/calculation that I could use. My neighbours frames exactly the same size as mine yet he gets 30 minutes more prep time than me. I believe we have similar size workloads

It's all guess work,what you have got to realise is that as long as you try your best and not waste time there is nothing they can do,I've been in this boat,try not to get wound up about thing's and just give it your best shot,I've had all sorts of test's and checks,make sure you are in the union and if the Dom's say they are going to test you on prep or whatever just ask the rep to witness it or if you haven't got a rep,ask the dom what they are testing you on and ask them to write it down so you can clarify it with the area rep

Need some advice on this subject,im struggling most days to get out on time,lino says my performance isn't good enough etc showing me the time it should take to double prep,cut a long story short ips over ran by 30 mins on Monday which resulted in myself getting out the building late and everyone else,told lino couldn't complete and would need to cut off,his reply take it all out see how you get on,I phoned an hr before finish time stating me and my partner couldn't complete,what did he want us to do,we brought mail back for finish time,now he is pulling me in for a meeting about my performance tomorrow,Im in the union and been a postie a long time can stand up for myself,sadly I think that's the problem.Not sure how to approach the meeting regarding performance standards,asked him many times to stand behind me and time me and for him to come on delivery,says he doesn't need to as he already has the figures.

Our office works out an individuals prep time on how much overtime staff have claimed on delivery the previous day

So the guys that get their round done quicker usually get sh*fted with extra indoor work; whilst if you plod along and talk to customers the chances are you don't get to do any sorting or extra prepping.

I find that bonkers when we are all paid the same hourly rate for the same job, but the fact is, in today's Royal Mail it really doesn't pay to be really efficient at your job.

I have some questions about the one minute prep test agreed with the union
1) The minimum amount you should be able to archive on a RM2000 is 25 ?
2) this is for all mail i.e flats letters ect ?
3) can you use sequenced mail in the test ?
4) when the test starts your frame should be empty ?
%) Your frame should be correct in line with the A+ ?

Had this the week before and know who you are talking about. Ask to see the nationally agreed figures on individual performance standards: I did and took great delight in watching him try to bluff it out!
Work at a reasonable pace, as instructed and refuse to get drawn into any argument that's based on their bullshit figures.
