Rumours in our office there could be a few hours evening delevery this winter this would be packets and parcels,im sure with even more to deliver this xmas,this would be a good idea,it would take that extra burdon off delivery staff in day time for those that want to finish in daylight.sunday morning could be an option too.

Typical Xmas planning goes like this

- Keep lapsing as usual until December, then, when staff want to finish work at 3pm NOT 5pm
- We will be told to leave the large packets/parcels
- Then when the large parcels/packets start racking up
- Managers will be pulling out all the stops to get the undelivered parcels delivered

i.e

- Bring in staff to work as packet drivers on their day off

But yes, I can foresee endless arguments with managers because many staff will want to leave both the lapsing and the large packets!

all PT staff in our office have been asked if we would like to be made up to fulltime hours over the Xmas period but we won't be starting earlier we'll be finishing later,also management are looking for people to deliver parcels from 2pm till 7 pm.apparently our office is not going to hire any white vans in this xmas so that's where the late parcel delivery comes in,when the vans have come back from the morning delivery out they will go again on parcel delivery.

That's nothing new in my DO.

Done "twilight packets" 12pm-8pm last two xmases. In reality you still come in 6am and work til 6.30pm/7pm.

And it's not just packets either you get tasked with doing cutoffs at like 2pm.

Looks like the plan is to have split shifts to cut down on van hire that will be a problem if it means you can not go over because your van is needed.

spoke about this with the DOM last week

the top brass are surmising that some vans will be back so posties can go out on Packet deliveries later in the day

I work in a small office and having worked for the last god knows how many festive periods I cant see any van being available until at least 15:30 even on a Tuesday

and to then send out PT staff in the dark on walks that they mostly won't have covered is absurd I will be amazed if 8 Packets an hour get delivered

a hire van costs RM around £25 a day on a long loan so in essence it's peanuts compared to the amount they will pay out in OT when the packet mountain starts building up.

every year Christmas comes around and every year RM bosses they and F it up.

the only people this year who will have everything delivered by RM will be the posties.

Reserves in our office where given a letter saying that hours may need to be changed to meet customer needs. "...leave reserves must be prepared to work different shift patterns... between the hours of 13:00 and 19:00". The letter goes on, but this was the main point of the letter.

I'm doing my contractual hours and that's it this Christmas period. There's no good will left on my part or most of my colleagues.
