Does anyone know, how soon after a resign, can i swap walks, my work colleague also wants the swap it suits us both,

But the Dom Has said we have to wait 1 year, is this true?

12 months is a rule for selection of a duty outside of a revision, so you can select another round.

However, technically speaking you can't swap a duty as it should be offered on a seniority basis, just as it was during the revision.

my partner tried to swap walks with another lad,,,,this is 3 years after revision....d.o.m told him no its to be done on seniority as tbt says.

Exact same thing happened in my office. Management and union agreed posters would be put up asking if anyone had an objection to the swap, if no objections by a certain date they would be allowed to swap. Not the official way of handling the situation but maybe the most sensible.

this seems like a very reasonable way to do it.

Obviously don't know the exact situation but It's all well and good arguing that both posties are happy to swap so there shouldn't be a problem, but that only works if both posties are immediately next to each other on the seniority list, but if there's even just one person between them such a swap would completely undermine the seniority system.
Say the two posties concerned are Nos 16 and 18 on the seniority list, the poor bugger at no 17 may have had his heart set on the walk No16 signed for but happily accepted that it was all done fair and square and he might get lucky next time.
If I was No17 I would not be happy that someone less senior suddenly gets it without getting a chance myself.

The 2 guys in my office were pretty low on the seniority list and the 2 duties involved were not that popular. It was straight after a repick and, as far as I remember, the reason one wanted to swap was just to work with a good friend on a van share. I think the issue was resolved even before anyone picked up their new duty they picked in the repick.

Agree with the "Stick to Agreements" comment. However surely a quick announcement in WTLL session might clear it up. i.e "These two want to swap duties.. any problem with that"?

In my Office they'd probably just get on with it themselves TBH and IF nobody complained there's not a problem!

IIRC thats for ad-hoc swaps, not permanent ones.

Phase 3 – Transforming the way we work

Both parties are committed to introducing new ways of working throughout the business by April 2008. In order to achieve this there will be a trial in four offices per AGM area covering the following:
New arrangements to cover for one another and develop sensible options to absorb absences, and increased workload, where time exists within normal hours
To ensure all paid work hours are utilised
To creates a working environment where employees, CWU reps and managers feel valued and motivated.
This flexibility could also facilitate arrangements for employees to make their own arrangements to cover and swap duties (subject to approval from their manager) – within contracted hours, providing quality of service is not adversely affected and there are no additional costs to the business.
Local ideas will be generated, agreed and deployed through trials by early January 2008. The trials will be nationally evaluated to identify the widest range of options for national roll out.
