Absorption/Lapsing as a locker worker?

am i as a locker worker able to refuse to take out left over lapsing/absorption that posties have given back due to lack of time?

ive been asked to take anything up to a third of a walk at times by management, that eats into my break and impacts on getting my own job done.

where do i stand with this as its annoying me to say the least?

no you are not able to refuse a reasonable request, you DO NOT have to give up your m/r to do it, and you will eventually fail your own work. Clearly no one has told you delivery is king, and what the king wants the king gets. The business plan/hopes that you will complete your work as you will only have to come into it tomorrow, for some this works. My advice would be to diarise any and all events and make all of your your objections to your lino formal, and cc in your rep and if things progress your area rep.

on the subject of lapsing/absorption,....i'm not having a go, but what do mail centre workers do in the way of extra work.? when D.O. staff don't (supposedly) have enough work to take us to our day, they give us lapsing, especially in the summer when its supposed to be slack. if this is the case up and down the country, what do they give mail centre workers to do?...just wondering, or is it just D.O. staff they piss on?

We get pissed on all the way from the top, I bet S.O workers never miss their break, and go home on time ?.

Simple answer is take your meal relief or at least 50% of it for that day and inform your manager if you will have any difficulties in completing your duties or lapsing or other duties. You must remember Royalmail pays your wage's not to bunk off early but to work but some duties are un-achievable even without lapsing so take your breaks and follow the cutting off procedure!

always plenty of work in a mc to keep us to our time. days of getting a bit of time are long gone.

Had the same thing in my DO.

I work in the locker as well as covering the Callers M/R and helping to book in items.

I was being sent out everyday on a delivery and despite complaining that my own work was failing as a result i was still sent out.

Worst of all by the time i had bagged up and was ready to go out on delivery a good few delivery staff had already finished for the day and had gone home.
Sometimes we had managers standing in the car park waiting for vans to get back so they could go out and do uncovered deliveries - with staff going home anything up to 3 hours before their finish time.

Eventually the complaints were heard further up the ladder and the delivery was taken off me.

My advice is just do as asked - take your full entitled M/R and if anything is not done inform your manager if need be on a daily basis and keep a diary. I used to email the DOM with a daily report of uncovered work.

That is the managers own fault then for not sending the early finishers back out on delivery!

i thought absorption/lapsing was if you have time after your delivery? how does that factor into a different job with a start and finish time which is the same everyday?

the only way you can do it, is to leave your own work and not get it all done, which could keep spilling into one day to the next if your asked everyday.

completely stupid if you ask me, they bring alot of the irritate customers on themselves and leave you to deal with them
