It was also privatised at the behest of European directives on postal services, I am led to believe and probably ignored by most EU countries. The pension crisis can be laid squarely at the feet of Gordon Brown , the worst Chancellor of the Exchequer, ever, closely followed by the current muppet. He taxed income from dividends for pension funds which has caused the problem.

Last time I went to doctors, I waited 4 hours because they were so overstretched. My children can't go to the school at the end of the road because it's full, so travel 3 miles each day. But don't worry another 330,000 are coming next year and the year after, and forever more.if we stop in E.U. For me the decision is easy

They are 2 different bodies,

The organization is distinct from the 28-nation European Union (EU), although it is sometimes confused with it, partly because the EU has adopted the original European Flag which was launched by the Council of Europe in 1955, as well as the Anthem of Europe. No country has ever joined the EU without first belonging to the Council of Europe.

Unlike the EU, the Council of Europe cannot make binding laws, but it does have the power to enforce select international agreements reached by European states on various topics. The best known enforcement body of the Council of Europe is the European Court of Human Rights, which enforces the European Convention on Human Rights. Other major CoE elements include the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines. Through such initiatives, the Council aims to promote common standards, charters and conventions streamlining cooperation among European countries.

The Council's two statutory bodies are the Committee of Ministers, comprising the foreign ministers of each member state, and the Parliamentary Assembly, composed of members of the national parliaments of each member state. The Commissioner for Human Rights is an independent institution within the Council of Europe, mandated to promote awareness of and respect for human rights in the member states. The Secretary General heads the secretariat of the organisation.

correct - the liberalisation of postal services was an EU thing.

Sadly incorrect. Privatisation was not a requirement of the Liberalisation of Postal Services, it was a political decision made by New Labour and finally implemented by the Coalition Government with the Lib Dems pushing it the most.

From 1998 onwards, the post monopoly was reduced to items weighing 350 grams and less, from 2003 onwards to items weighing 100 grams and less, and from 2006 onward to items weighing 50 grams or less. Since 2011 and for eleven countries since 2013, postal markets are fully liberalized. EU regulation does not concern public ownership. Member states are free to maintain publicly owned postal operators.
