Later start times on Delivery

If as rumoured/ expected IP work is removed from Delivery, Then they will undoubtedly want/ press for later start times to allow one wave and the Mail Centres to get all IP done and in to DLO's .

If they moved my current start time 0615 Wednesday / Thursday / Friday and 0630 Monday/ Tuesday/ Saturday forward a hour, this would result in a finish time close to or after 1500.

The major advantage of this job is it allows me to collect my Child from school at 1500 during the week ( My Wife works afternoons and always takes the kid to school).

We are both working full time, what could I do to insure that I remained full time but was able to finish at 1400 ! Could I put in an application now for family friendly hours to protect my current hours. Or would they just argue this is pure speculation at the moment, and then once its being negotiated claim that they cant look at anyones hours whilst we are under negotiation.

I m sure this is an issue that will effect a massive amount of Working Parents in the Business if it is, as suspected implemented.

requesting and getting family friendly hours wouldn't actually give much protection, because even after they have given them to you, if they even do in the first place, there is no legal right to keep them, rm can change your hours as a need of the business just by giving you reasonable notice

You'd more likely be looking at a start time of 09:00 or later. The only early starters would be those doing 9am specials. There'd be virtually no chance of the sequenced mail getting to any DOs to enable starts before 09:00

and if you lead on from that, if the first office off the machine is getting a 0900 start what time will the last office off the machine get? that's where it will start to get interesting with start and finish times

Think I'll have to wait and see....IF & When.......What time this Single Wave arrives.....before I throw my Teddy in the corner. I try not to get stressed over things until they happen. If you have no influence over a decision there's nothing you can do.

We have a number of timed deliveries in our office (firms who pay a lot of money to get their mail between 7am & 8am), so how are they going to get their mail at that time if the mail isn't going to arrive at 9am in the office?

Probably will have to pay to have it delivered by 10 AM or they could wait for it maybe by 3 PM if they are lucky still be a time delivery just not 7 AM or 9 AM any more maybe they will have to change their start times with us the term ROYALSNAIL springs to mind!

And in winter, we'll be finishing our rounds in pitch black. Probably haven't thought of this untill it happens knowing the super planning capacity of royal mail top bosses.

The way things are going most of our deliveries will be in the evening in the future as that is when most people get home except those who will get time deliveries as they will finish in the late evening.

If the business wants to push for later finish times then it will - but it will usually try and get a agreement with the Union first before rolling out any changes in your area.

Your Area Rep should be your first port of call.

Yes all changes planed or even rumoured should be communicated to the rep first and if no joy the area rep so as we can get a handle on what they are up to they the Royal Mail want an easy transition so they do it by stealth!

what about 9am specials. if you don't get the mail in your office til 9 or later, how does that work then?

Unfortunately I don't think needing to get children from school is going to be an accepted argument in the future for any business as all schools are going to eventually offer wrap around care, or childminders who are local to the school, sooner rather than later. I'm fortunate as mine are now older and at high school so are fine to go home alone, I'm really not sure I would have even considered this job if I had young children as it's far from family friendly!

Royal Mail will push for later starts knowing full well a lot of posties will come in early therefore eradicating OT at the end of the working day. We start at 7.00 and if you start at the correct time there is no sitting on frames for 20 mins swinging ya legs but muppets in my office cannot see this and come in unto 1 hour early

I could handle a 9am start mind hate getting up early doors!
