Does anyone have this problem?

I have been a postie for 18 years and have had not too many health problems,apart from the dog bites, back problems,ankle,knees and shoulder pains, but in this last year i have started having breathing problems,now as a park and loop driver with a Fiat van which needs regenerated once a week, the fumes that we breath in when unloading van, or when regenerating van and also having the heater on in the van, i was wondering if anyone was having the same problem because we know that diesel fumes are bad for you.
Waiting to see a specialist, but if it is the van that has caused this , i will be seeing that the union goes after RM, I'm still working but at 64 this is my last year, so i want to get this fixed before i retire.

The only thing there that would bother me is having the van running whilst you are unloading it,switch it off,there is no reason to have it running everything else should be safe as the fumes should not be getting in the van at all.You are just as likely to breathe in diesel particulate matter if your walk is along main roads during rush hour with a lot of stop start traffic,it would be nigh on impossible to prove that the van has had such a bad effect on you in such a short time,I hope you get it sorted out.

I would say Your breathing problem has no connection at all with the van.

norm,i have not smoked for 40 years and not worked with asbestos.

Our van keeps the fan on for ages when the engine is switched off and the filter is clogged, even when the engine is cold.
The smell that comes from it is horrendous and I can only imagine it is very bad for our health to be breathing these carcinogens. I know what the original post is talking about when he says the fumes are awful even when outside the van as ours stinks to high hell when we get out.

When the DPF gets done it is absolutely stinking. We have to stand outside and away from the van because of the smell. When it's over the inside of the van smells dreadful. There is no way that doesn't have an effect on our health. Also as a walker I sometimes get dropped off, when I go to the back to get my bag etc the ignorant bstard drivers sit in the van with the engine running

Have found out i have asthma, which could have been caused by breathing in fumes or stress of the job

must be a fault on the van with the exhaust system get it logged of before you kill yourself's or someone else state the cause and manor of your symptoms as these are CO2 poisoning the van is killing you!

If it's away from their DO where they're unloading the van they're also risking getting sacked for mails integrity/security
