Packets left in for days in our office, they've had people in Sunday and today the office was pretty much clear. No doubt it all goes tits up again tomorrow when it's busy again. It's been a bit of a joke, some days we've had the drivers to clear but no vans for them - in general though we've been understaffed and struggling, yet the MC's get a ton of extra staff as usual.

we've had walks leaving mail and packets/parcels for weeks but today it all went quiet, lull before the storm maybe. Had hardly any loose mail so will no doubt get hit tomorrow, why does this happen on a tuesday???

The extra staff are needed in a MC because things would quickly grind to a halt as we'd run out of space

Very quiet start to pressure here, hardly any difference in packet volumes. loads of tracks though. surely we will get hit big time pretty soon.

ps. not based in Windermere, it`s a reference to a part of my hometown

We're coping, but only just. Mail is normal for the time of year, but packets are through the roof, or more precisely, we have yorks and yorks of them stacked on the dock and stashed in every square inch inside. The callers office is full, and two thirds of the canteen area has been given over to hold the overflow.

Extra packet deliveries, early starts for the part timers (2 hours every day, including Tuesday), early start overtime for IPS, night sorters (not that there are many volunteers for that) and an extra CSS operator (all 4 operators have 2 hours S/A added to the start of their night). It's working, but we have absolutely no cover if anyone goes sick. Only ten days into our pressure period and you can see the fatigue setting in. Still, only another 13 days to go.

Just about getting done on time and that's with two Yorks of parcels taken from us some left mech today as came in the office late.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that MC's do not require any extra staff this time of year. I think the point was made as to question why the disparity between MC's and DO's. Both functions should have the appropriate staffing levels at this time of year.

it would help if the MC could get the mail to the delivery offices on time, our 7.30am delivery of mail is not getting to us until 8.15am
This was 15 yorks and 3 yorks of IPS for a small office of 25 people.
Needless to say the whole office cut off
Why can't they get the mail to us on time , reason is lack of drivers and using agency drivers

We're managing quite well. The office is cleared ever day........ However I don't know how much it's costing....... A Lot I'd guess!

We seem to have more than our fair share of "Overtime Bandits" at this time of the year. They can help themselves as far as I'm concerned. Most Posties seem to be working their Days Off! So that releases our Reserves to do Large parcels, we've got some later start Duties which frees up vans until 10.30 plus we have several hire Vans.

Early IPS helps to get those Christmas Cards sorted, and some Posties still have enough energy left to hoover up any Loops that have been left off the Regular Duties. I don't know how they'll be feeling next week but at the moment I'm feeling pretty relaxed!
