Scotland Losing Out on a Day Off... F######g union...

As I understand it, Scotland are going to get one fewer days off than their brothers and sisters south of the border.

As you may or may not know, January 2nd is a bank holiday in Scotland, due (I am guessing), to the Scots love of a good drink on Hogmanay. To balance it out, we don't get Good Friday off. Now, this normally works out fine.

However, this year the Royal Mail have decided to make Saturday the 2nd a Non-Service day. this means everyone in the UK receives the day off. Brilliant! We can share a drink with our English colleagues. But wait. You lot STILL get the Good Friday off, while we don't. We *should* get Monday the 4th off, as the bank holiday falls on the weekend. But no, RM has decided that we have to work it.

Now, my office is rightly pissed off about this. Granted, we aren't actually *losing* a day off, but 90% of posties are gaining an extra one, while Scottish posties aren't.

So we held a vote to ballot for strike action. Not a proper strike, but just a single-day strike on the 4th, to restore the balance. *EVERY SINGLE* member in my office voted in favour, so our local and area reps took it to the national union. And they said No, we can't.

WHAT THE f**k? Why is the CWU ignoring Scottish posties? Do they not see the unfairness in this situation?

So we are now considering balloting for strike action on Good Friday instead, again only to keep us equal with our colleagues South of the Wall.

Well if you are all that pissed off about it why not all not attend on the 4th of January or organize a concerted response by your union so as the affect would be as the first instance!

If you feel that you are losing out there are procedures to follow before you can hold a proper strike vote, you need to go through the ir process, rather than just asking to jump straight to the end of that you would probably get further by following the stages correctly

First I've heard also. By the way Scotland, us south of the border who are scheduled the sat 26th as our day off that week are also losing out as we don't get it back in lieu as opposed to our colleagues who are Mon, Tues,wed, Thurs off who have a day less to work that week. Fri day off people work 4 days like us but get xmas day back in lieu as it's a b/h. So I totally understand and feel for ya. Ps where did you read about us getting the non service day on the 2nd?

We down there always work on the 2nd unless it is Monday in place of Sunday we do get new years day off and good Friday each to their own Hogmanay is a big thing north of the boarder and long may it remain so some of us go up there as it is a place of much merriment.

We aren't losing out at all. We get saturday the 2nd off, in leiu of Good Friday and the rest of the UK is back to work on the 2nd. If they did it the same as xmas weekend, Scotland would benefit to an EXTRA days holiday entitlement.

Sorry, got that wrong....... the Irish had 4 days off but voted to only have 2...... still not aving it....
