Seniority or suitability?

Just a quick question, a duty has been advertised that I would need training for would someone with less seniority than me get the duty if they had already done the round? I thought this could only be applied for specialist duties like admin or callers office duties but I could be wrong. Thanks in advance for the answers.

Seniority wins everytime. Some jobs such as dom support can also go on suitability

For those jobs it's the most senior suitable person, for the op the round should go up for signing and most senior applicant who wants it gets it

In my office someone had their hours increased,not something I or anyone else more senior found about until after. So yes sometimes it is who your mates are.

At my office, drivers only cant go for walking duties and walkers only can't go for drivers duties

Seniority is outdated and in my opinion should only be used as a deciding factor when all other avenues have been examined.The fact that `its only a problem when you don`t have any` is just a selfish attitude. If you are fully qualified for a position is it not in the companies best interest to have that person for the job rather than someone who has merely been with the company for more years. If 2 or more people are equally qualified then i have no problem with seniority being the deciding factor. Name one other company other than RM or PO that uses seniority as the ONLY deciding option in , Leave,Duties ect.

If that person is more qualified than you then why shouldn't they have an equal opportunity to get the position ? It makes good business sense to have the right man for the job.Would you agree to the cleaner getting the job just because they have been there longer than you so have more seniority.?
