Parcels are now priority

Today a manager came round and said that we are now a parcel company who also delivers letters. Parcels are now priority so if it means we must stream our frames to complete our parcels then we have permission to do so.
We were told this comes from Moyà....anyone else get this talk?!
I thought it was the law to deliver mail....

Eeerm, what is streaming mail? You can always remind your dom of his words when inevitably, you have cages of packets 'waiting' for a light day to get delivered in the coming weeks.

incorrect USO applies equally to letters and parcels, only exception is saturdays when it only applies to lettera

If I run out of time I make sure parcels are cleared as a priority. It's one of the few management instructions that is logical, I think. I suppose it is technically 'streaming' the mail but I don't differentiate on class of postage, just on size so that it's not such a nightmare for the next day.

It's certainly far easier to fit 30 mins of cut-off letters into your van the next day than 30 mins of cut-off parcels.

Parcels have three days, first class two do they not?

The USO doesn't actually put a timescale on any of them, the USO is simply that every household address had one delivery per day Monday to Saturday for letters and one per day Monday to Friday for parcel. No mail should be prioritised letters or parcels streaming of mail is strictly forbidden

Ok looking into it further all I can find with the USO is that RM must provide a delivery/collection service for letters 6 days a week and for parcels 5 days a week.

Whatever way you look at it there is nothing to state that parcels have priority and have always been advised to by management to prioritise the mail as they believed it took priority over packets?

You can still call your manager an idiot because he probably is one, that's part of the requirements for becoming one!


EDIT: Also Ofcom have targets for next day delivery of letters to be met but not parcels don't they? Something like 93% next day delivery?

Technically at least 1/4 of what we send to DOs is actually large letters, take for example Amazon packets the size of a DVD

not necessarily some offices still have an agreement to not process mails sort 3 on a saturday to keep their early finish, most office gave it up but some have managed to insist on it and that agreement had not yet been superceeded

Our office was told this a couple of months ago. Don't know if it has anything to do with most of our letters having DHL/TNT/anything but a stamp on it

not allowed to leave any specific items ie parcels second class etc
if it's been sorted in it gets delivered from delivery point 1 up ro the point you cut off, union is asking for examples of instructions to stream to be sent to hq so it can be stopped
