With the existing PDAs you could always either turn the comms off, or press the reset button to send it to sleep before leaving the office. With the current batch you could probably even justify it on the grounds of "making sure the battery lasts to the end of the day" (e.g. one of the PDAs in my office that won't charge above 50%), however we'll need a new excuse when the new ones arrive!

I wouldn't know what's downloaded and what hasn't. I couldn't care less about reception. Scan>done>lock>forget.

Monitoring us online is a perfectly reasonable development in management practice, especially when you work in an office where the workers don't return to base like mine. The suspicion about what we do is chronic and so all the rumours can be put to bed with real evidence of how big our rounds are now via the new PDA. Hang on, this is Royal Mail

Reception on your walk is inconsequential. The PDA will record your movements at all times and batch-upload the data when you get back to the office (or a good reception area).
