Annual leave lotto draw

been told today in the WTL session, we've to fill in our A/L forms and hand them in on a certain date, once we hand them in we will each be given a number out of the bag or what ever, then we get to pick our annual leave by what ever number we have in numerical order, never heard anything like this before what a joke

Yeah, didn't have much luck, got 2 numbers plus some bonus-lapsing.

I have asked to do the holiday rota for 2016-17 as the Dim really has not got a clue and never wants to give out holidays etc.

so I asked everyone which way did they think was fairest all round.

Lotto draw, seniority, or being put into groups ( with seniority ) and then moving to bottom next year and then rotate around year on year.

Seniority won,

everyone will get to pick two week, then one week, then one week and then those with more weeks available can pick theirs, with part weeks and single days picked after all full weeks have been issued.

the consensus is that that is the best way to do it.

Horses for courses and it will always bring about disagreements etc, but I dont think there is really a better way to do it.

and for the record I am 20th out of 32 in our office. :)

I didn't think it was allowed to use seniority to dish out holiday weeks now, unless you do it like we do: one year it's seniority first; the following year it's juniority first. Surely that would be equally fair to everyone where you are?

We have the staff into 2 groups seniority down to juniority and pick 2 weeks then one week and then one week going down the lists.
next year we flip the groups and so on
We also let posties with children have the 1st 2 weeks of their pick in the summer holidays and also a postie who's wife is a teacher.
It is always done and finished in a few weeks .

Unless your near the middle! In an office of 200 you could literally never get your choice of holidays for yrs.

Yeah sorry I wasn't being specific enough. There are loads of groups, 6 or so to a group. Each one of those groups pick in seniority/juniority order. It does mean everyone can get a minimum of 2 first choice weeks every other year, no matter where in the pecking order they are.
