Signing Back After Shift Finished

I read a while back in that font of all knowledge (The Courier ) a reply to a query re going back and signing for duty completion upon return to depot. Am I correct in thinking that the reply was along the lines of

There is no requirement to return back to the office solely for the purpose of signing back out

this being particularly relevant to non-drivers. Is this enshrined in any LTB's because one of our Linos took the hump with several duties, all P&L (who did not lapse - mine included), and muttered stuff along the lines that contradict the reply given by some bigwig in said Courier. Also been told we should not claim overtime the following day although this will invariably add more overtime costs for the non-driver in any P&L pairing. Crazy

FYI the full quote is as follows

In principle, all employees are required to sign on and sign off duty. However, we do not insist that those who finish their delivery route away from the office return purely for the purposes of signing out.

Beamish..... Will your P&L Partner be happy with dropping you off at the end of your Duty and returning to the Office by himself? I ask because we have had posts concerning this sort of thing in the past. Some Drivers thought they were getting the rough end of the stick, having to empty the van of bags, boxes,returned parcels etc.
