Paul Howarth, Caerphilly delivery office manager, has been working with his team and the CWU to raise the importance of safe driving and vehicle maintenance. He talked to people individually and during weekly WTLL sessions about driving behaviour, safe parking, wearing seatbelts and use of handbrakes, amongst other things. The team also considered the impact an accident can have on people and families.
During a recent WTLL session, the whole office rolled up their sleeves, cleaned every vehicle in the unit and learnt how to carry out safety vehicle checks.
Paul said: ‘We promoted a joint approach with the CWU, frontline, workplace coaches and management to improve engagement and awareness of the importance of a safe, clean and regularly maintained fleet. There’s now a great pride in our vehicles with everyone working together to keep it going. We’re seeing the wider benefit of this professionalism with our customers in the area’.
Postman Andrew Thomas said: ‘We had a great morning with all the staff and managers getting involved, plus we now have a more professional, safe and roadworthy fleet of vehicles.’
