Full time duties getting made part time

Despite the agreement saying your entitled to a contract that reflects the actual hours you work day in day out for 6 months plus, this is never ever enforced or offered to the individual. Wht do we pay subs to the CWU for if they cant & dont ever make sure agreements like this are adhered to????

i've been doing a minimum of 34 hours a week for the last 8 or 9 months yet im only on a 24hr contract........
When i ask if i can get a contract to reflect this im told that when i get made permanent they will give me a 30 hr contract
Full time posties have left but im still waiting to be made permanent let alone more hours in my contract

Not true. We have part time duties (walks span 2.5 hours to 4) And full time duties( 4-7 hours)

Our office is becoming like the OP said, Part timers getting put on fulltime walks, and then when you ask for the OT you get all sorts of grief

We have had 11 full Timers leave over the last few years not one of those duties is now full time. There seems to be no reason as to why they are now PT duties, they have become much larger duties than they were, both in terms of prep and delivery. Just cost cutting for the sake of it. Once all the full timers have gone the Union Grandees will have to start treating PT'ers with some respect. I think they may already be too late.

It's an easy way for your manager to meet their annual cut back targets, they don't have to pay you full time when your on holiday/sick, and you're basically forced to work the extra ot on a ft duty because let's face it who can actually live on a 20 hour contract?

What's the union doing about it?

So much for the balance of full-time staff to part-time staff being 70-30 which the Union wanted. Since when did 28 hours become full-time in our office??


Ive noticed since I started the gradual shift of workers being put on a lesser weekly contract from 40 hours a week to 35 to 33, 29 etc etc Now we have "bag-carriers" on something like 15 hour contracts. They come in at 9.30 and do a 5 hour duty (which used to be a 5 and half hour duty) 3 times a week (instead of 5 times a week). I don't know how management get away with it in our office, but they do.

we've not had any part timers made up for years, but most of them coming. in early, run round .......etc and obviously they blame the union rep who keeps coming out with the same old thing,stop coming in early,running round.......etc.all our new starters are 24hours and yet there are no duties that can be done in those hours,the union is very weak compared to how it was when I started

I don't think the Union itself is any weaker, after all we seem more than willing to strike when the cause is just. However, and this is my personal opinion only, there is a lack of support for Unit reps and its a problem that has been festering for ages. The branch system needs a major overhaul, and more use of technology needs to be enforced. At the moment it seems to me that some senior reps, by no means a majority of them, but enough, seem to want to control any information in an attempt to secure their position.

Now to make a clarification, there are no Senior Reps that I know personally or on here that would match that description, however, even if it is a perception only, its a worrying one. Hopefully Dave will soon be addressing these issues as promised during the election.

People need to be doing their jobs properly instead of racing around trying to finish 30-40mins early. If your supposed to use a trolley then use one. Dont give the office any excuse to lapse duties. If everyone did their job properly instead of trying to be heros then we wouldnt be taking hours out of the office.
