A couple of questions
Something apart from PSE...
1. What is the ruling of delivering D2Ds? I appreciate it is considered live mail but can a manager force you to take out an allocated section of a frame daily.
2. Could somebody explain what BSI is? Our DO will apparently be raised in the upcoming revision and I've been told the runners are partly responsible. Would be good to give some advice if I understood what it is and how it is worked out

Re: A couple of questions
Q1, yes. I know some offices have the frames marked up, monday, tuesday etc. The reason is if you are a floater or covering a round on O/T you do that part, the next day they know what has been done. If you are a duty holder and go sick or have A/L part way through a week, again they know what has been done and what is left to do. At the end of the day it all comes down to 'As directed' so provided it is a reasonable request, yes they can direct you to do it.

Re: A couple of questions
BT 2010 agreement states that 1/6th of D2D's have to be delivered on a daily basis.
However it also says that the Postie can manage this providing all D2D's are delivered by end of duty on Saturday.
There is nothing in the BT 2010 that says a manager can "order" you to take out a certain number. We have guys in our office do them all on a Tuesday, some prep a couple of columns each day and then take them where they are going.

Re: A couple of questions
BSI in Royal Mail is Business Standards Institute, in real life its a Bull S..t Index.
The official theory is that it is part of a formula that works out how efficient the office is and then this is used as a basis to improve the office. For instance if your office is classed as at 90BSI and they want to improve you to 100% then 10% of the duties (in theory) will be lost. Its not that simplistic though because traffic levels, packet counts and various factors have to be taken into account/
My own theory is that the BSI level is an indicator of how much bovine excrement has to be utilised to assure managers further up the food chain that every thing is running well.

I still dont know why, a phg, a night worker in a S.O get paid for d2d, when its us opgs that have up to 7, its time for it to go back to paying the guys and girls that deliver them, it would be a little extra for all the sh it we keep get given.

No one gets paid for doing them. Everyone gets the delivery supplement, pro-rata for part timers. There is no payment in delivery offices for delivery of d2ds.

Re: A couple of questions
Eventually the manager will have to explain his inability to manage them. At my office managers report regularly failing duties to the UB, so be careful. You can be, and it has happened that people have been sacked and prosecuted for D2D matters.

Re: A couple of questions
and to elaborate on pinstripes post, if by SO you mean Mail Centre then they don't get a Delivery Supplement. They do get a Mail Centre Supplement which is just over a 1/3 of ours. It was £8 when it started and ours was IIRC £21.60pinstripe wrote:borgpicard wrote:I still dont know why, a phg, a night worker in a S.O get paid for d2d, when its us opgs that have up to 7, its time for it to go back to paying the guys and girls that deliver them, it would be a little extra for all the sh it we keep get given.

PHG is a colloquialism now. it's certainly easier typing that than listing all the "PHG" jobs individually, and we all know what posters mean when they use it.

Managers get a right royal kick up the arse !
It's their job to see that they are all delivered, not tell you how you deliver them.
D2D's are now classed as live mail, so if you fail to deliver them, you can be taken down the conduct route for willful delay.

Re: A couple of questions
My rep told me the door-dustbin payment came about because they used to be piecework paid at 2p each or something. So the posties in the South or delivering to the more prosperous demographic had plenty and at say 6 in one week on a 560-slot frame would get them another 80 quid-odd before tax, while the Northerners delivering to the poorer/benefit council estates which are more common up there would, aside from the odd pizza or local supermarket one, get hardly any. So they complained 'it ain't fair' so the CWU sought a standardized payment nationally.
The obvious result was that for a fixed sum, RM would fill their boots and pile as many contracts in as possible to get their money's worth. Which is the situation that prevails today. So the poor postie who delivers to a decent area gets 3-6 a week and receives the same money as postman B who delivers to Skanksville where the odd resident that can read receives only an occasional Domino's, Virgin or Farm-F8cking-Foods one...........
Please correct me if this isn't a reasonably true synopsis of what happened.......
