Financial help for widowed son of postman

Not sure if this is the right place to post but. Is there any sort of help available for the son of a widowed postman. Not too sure but I think he's looking at further education. Can remember reading something about it in the courier awhile ago, but can't be sure. Can anybody offer any advice/help?
