Taken off your duty so it could be used for summer lapsing?
According to RMC FB it's starting to happen, just curious how reps deal with it,how the staff feel being kicked off,is it done in a fair way,ect ect.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Taken off your duty so it could be used for summer lapsi
I have 26 years service, the duty I signed for has been lapsed for the past 3 years. I do the duty 3 weeks at Christmas. all other times Iam moved. This week I am floater (covering day of) next week I am on duty all week covering a/l. My scheduled day of is hardly ever honoured, if I need car mot, house repair etc it is booked when Iam on a/l, I can not not make plans in advance as my day of changes each week. No union rep in office, told by manager got to lapse. My round is right outside office so everyone can do bits.

Re: Taken off your duty so it could be used for summer lapsi
During our revision we agreed a lapsing duty so whenever a duty needs lapsing whether it's for summer staffing or to cover absence etc it's the same duty that's lapsed, this was agreed prior to the resign so the guy who signed for the duty did so in the full knowledge that his duty would be the one lapsed and he would be shifted whenever it happened,

Re: Taken off your duty so it could be used for summer lapsi
when summer lapsing occurs ( 6 weeks as agreed ) the duty holder becomes a floater. Before anyone signed for this duty they were made aware that when summer comes it will be lapsed so it is part of their understanding when they sign for it. We only lapse one duty, not different ones each day. All scheduled days off for duty holder remain same and start times remain same.

we turn up for work & its as directed. Read your contract of employment people!
All this, thats my duty is silly, its royal mails duty!
Im a rep & have lost the duty i was on due to absorption twice. As-long as its done fairly & like many say, 99% of the time some dutys just make sense to absorb.

Re: Taken off your duty so it could be used for summer lapsi
I have difficulty with this one due to your length of service and the extent of lapsing to your signed duty over a 3 year period. In other words for 49 weeks of the year your duty is absorbed by colleagues without incurring o/t or cutting off in their own signed duties due to the absorption because if this is the case then you should be arguing with support from your area rep if no local rep available that your signed duty should be retained.mentaltheshots wrote:I have 26 years service, the duty I signed for has been lapsed for the past 3 years. If your duty can be covered in this manner for this length of time was it ever a duty in the first place.
Like the other threads were you made aware at the time of signing that this duty would be used for summer lapsing when there was a downturn in traffic volumes and the selection process used for identifying that your duty was at the fore-front.
Are you really a floater or a surplus employee covered by the MTSF agreement?
Needs a grievance and union intervention.

Duties are not meant to be lapsed to cover absence

summer lapsing is only to cover extra annual leave slots. The part that allows lapsing all year is a different section of the pay and mod agreement.

this is where you are mistaken the agreement which allows summer staffing is the pay and modernisation agreement and in that there are two sections that allow for lapsing, the first is summer staffing which allows for extra annual leave slots during the summer weeks, the second part is the "covering for each other section" which is the part which allows for lapsing to cover for absence sickness etc all year round
