One of the first units to take part in the latest revisions process was the North West delivery office in Manchester. Over the course of 12 weeks, the revisions manager worked with managers, postmen and women and the CWU to see how the unit could become more efficient. .
The revisions manager was based in the delivery office throughout, helping to build working relationships between everyone involved.
CWU rep Geoff Hughes said: ‘The revisions manager was much more visible on the floor and people were able to talk to him directly. This was an open door process.’
Colleague workplace coach Lee Humphries, said: ‘This revision was different because all employees had the opportunity to have an input. Their first-hand knowledge of their walks was invaluable and they worked with the revisions manager to make the changes.’
Understanding the need for change was also key. Delivery office manager Peter Kelly said: ‘Our CWU rep was instrumental in helping people to understand the end game.’
Having an impact

Mark Dudgeon, delivery sector manager, said: ‘Initial results show that the unit is working more efficiently and gross hours are reducing.’
