Summer resourcing film: Responding to a changing mailbag

As you know, our workload changes throughout the year, depending on the number of parcels and letters put through our network.

Working with the CWU to create joint summer resourcing plans is an important first step to meeting our customers’ needs. We’ve worked closely with the CWU to make sure this process is right for you, and right for Royal Mail.

Chief operations officer Sue Whalley says: ‘Customers have demands on us at different times of the year. During the summer we know that customers post fewer letters and parcels. We need to use your knowledge and expertise to create successful summer work plans that are achievable, fair and manageable for everybody, but also good for the business.

CWU assistant secretary Bob Gibson says: ‘We want union reps and managers in all locations to work together in line with nationally agreed guidelines. At the same time, they should take input from you to agree fair and efficient summer plans that are understandable, achievable and provide everyone with a clear picture of what’s expected of them over the summer period.’

More information

To give you more information about the rationale for summer resourcing plans, we have created a special film.

Chief operations officer Sue Whalley, and CWU Assistant secretary Bob Gibson explain why we need to create summer plans, and how they could affect you.

Your manager will watch this film with you soon.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Bob Gibson will also tell the staff that lapsing should be done within your working daily hours not o/t , so only do summer lapsing if you have time then. :thumbup

Chief operations officer Sue Whalley says: ‘Customers have demands on us at different times of the year". but that's not to say that they have different demands, no, they always want everything delivered efficiently and without delay. :thumbup
"Customers" have nothing to do with this. :cuppa It's Royal Mail that has different demands on us at different times of the year and especially more lapsing and more absorbing during the summer.

Mails been down last few weeks , yet most of us have been back well after our time , and this has been a regular occurance. Then the bullying and harrassment comes in regarding overtime. Wtf is actually being done about this situation , it's pressure. Pressure pressure all the time. Some of our staff are now scared to put in any over time ,,,for an easier life . Shocking .

Talk all they want. I come to work on time do my job efficiently but don't tear about, and go home on time. If I have to cut off, so be it, if I have time for extra, likewise. Simples. Don't let em bully you. If you don't take the piss you have nothing to fear.

Absolutely agree. And there's no point stressing out, start time finish time and enjoy the sun if we get any.
