Colleagues care for community by teaming up with local police station


Postmen and women at Winchester delivery office are playing a vital role as the eyes and ears of their local community through a new ‘Mailwatch’ initiative.

Delivery office manager Tony Martin and his team of more than 130 are working in collaboration with Hampshire Police and local neighbourhood watch groups in an enterprise created and developed by Royal Mail’s security team.

Sharing intelligence

The partnership has created a system for postmen and woman to report low-level crimes they notice while out on their walks. It also ensures the police and neighbourhood watch groups share important intelligence with the delivery office.

Tony says: ‘The project takes advantage of our strong presence on the ground.

‘We take intelligence from the police and notify postmen and women, who have a phone number to call if they see anything suspicious.’

Since the pilot launched this month, the team has reported crimes of stealing and trespassing.

‘It’s an extension of the service we already provide to the community that doesn’t affect the time it takes us to do our job. It’s given everyone a glow.’

All very well grassing on people but if you were the only witness then it leaves you open for repercussions, the offender will know exactly where you will be and how much will royal mail help you out then?

Something else for us to do on the cheap, of course, as long as it does not make us late! Not enough police on the beat so lets see if we can get someone else on the cheap. Perhaps they could give us all a broom to stick up our asses and we could sweep the streets as well?

yes a load of rubbish because of a lack of visible police a 40 year old was killed in our area last week.diabolical cutbacks bye this goverment let the scum rule the streets thats there idea of were all in this together

Strange.
I've watched people sweeping the streets (and I have even used a broom myself) and never have I seen anyone put the broom up their ass to use it.
Perhaps this strange sexual proclivity is what trythat is actually wanting to try out.

There's the important part in the eye's of a DOM. And what service do RM provide to the community? It's a commercial service provided to paying senders of post and DSA customers.

If I see something which I think the police should be told about then I'll do it. Same goes for fire or ambulance services. Why do I need a RM initiative?
