Managers doing postman work

Been told by management that they are allowed to do 20 minutes of work a day i would class as ours to do, putting out trays, throwing in walks, clearing down sorting frames etc. Could someone confirm this as fact? Lost 4 duties in our office and this practice not helping.

been going on in our mc for years disagreements have been put in and deals done but managers still do the work very few care anymore

Our line manager, some days, does a walk and a half of flexing that postmen do not have time to do within their contracted hours. He's often seen at four in the afternoon trudging around, quite funny till you realise he's doing this, yet even more walks are coming out. Something doesn't add up somewhere

It's often said in our MC that it is hard to recognise our shift manager
if he is'nt pushing a york container in front of him.He has often been
offered a change of shirt to make him not stand out so much.He says
he sees the funny side of it but of course it is'nt funny! .It's someone
else's job

In our MC when it happens they have to inform us as to why then we must meet to discuss to try and find fix to avoid it happening again. If they fail to do this we lodge disagreement. The main argument we do have regarding is that we are duty bound to safegaurd the customers mail so at times it will happen but if it is a resourcing issue we can at least flag it through JPS. It's a touchy subject really as we don't want them to do it but again the customer must receive their mails. We just tend to never agree to it if people are sat at home having been told they are not required to work but it becomes a bit of a merry go round at times. The issue most probably regularly lands at stage 3 all over the country but you can argue resource they can highlight customer and you can at times end up at deadlock. I hear of it all of the time, i really think that it needs addressing nationally for clarity.

pretty sure that this is a national problem ,here in Glasgow it happens daily, though the only time really it should happen is if the despatch is going to fail!! ..other than that they shouldn't be doing it .
our reps have been constant in challenging this and each time its raised with the MC manager the MCM tells them they will tell all the managers to stop doing our work wether its pushing or sorting.We even had a rule 13 in at one point and even downed tools a few times because of managers doing our work especially in this climate of people leaving the business.
our h&s is even compromised when the proverbial s**t hits the fan and managers wont let h&s stop the despatch going out.
But all this is nothing new on probably a national scale ...so do you keep talking to sort these problems ?? and when do you stop talking and finally take action?? do you talk for days ,months,years???

All the managers doing postmans work are kinda making a nice business case for higher up to make all line managers team leaders

I think that's correct. But only to the extent of actually sorting the mail. Basically so that they know where everything goes.
After that 20 minute period all sorted mail is placed back on the IPS frames to be sorted again by posties. Therefore not taking away our work.
Having said that, in my office I would estimate that both managers do in excess of 3 hours posties work every d, on average.

Told same manager more than twice to stop doing postman work. Put a grievance in when it became confrontational when i challenged him again to stop. Area manager paid a visit to office, hardly seen managers on shop floor since, certainly not touching mail at the moment, see how long it lasts.
