New PDA batteries will be sent out this week

Around 60,000 new PDA batteries are on their way to delivery offices, as Royal Mail invests to maintain the lifespan of our existing PDA service.

The new batteries will help safeguard the service and improve some of the performance issues being reported by postmen and women. This is the last major deployment of batteries for existing PDAs before we migrate to a new service and new hand held devices.

Most of the new batteries will be sent directly to sites, based on the number of PDAs held there. Some offices were sent new batteries over the Christmas period, because of urgent need, and they will have their current allocation adjusted as necessary. A small number of our scale payment delivery offices (SPDO) only have one PDA and will need to contact their parent DO to request a battery if required.

Old batteries

Offices are asked to hang on to their old batteries, which will be collected when the old devices are replaced in the new PDA rollout. This ensures old batteries are properly disposed of. .

They probably had them all the time !

Hope they send some to MCs as well as our batteries are well f*cked. Got through 2 batteries down to the blue light of death and a third was draining fast, in the space on just over an hour

Mine got a new battery at the start of the year (it looks brand new and is dated 11/14). It's already started to show a low battery warning towards the end of the walk.

Some of them don't hold power for long, lithium ion batteries age quite quickly, those "new" batteries mentioned could be what's called "new old stock" still in its wrappers.
