holiday rollover problem
I know that we are entitled to money if we are unable to take our bank holiday entitlement, but if we are unable to have holiday weeks that we are owed because there is no room left in the calendar can we opt for payment instead , cheers

Re: holiday rollover problem
There is no national agreement on this. If there was RM would possibly be breaking the law by potentially encouraging staff not to take their statutory holiday entitlement in return for money

Re: holiday rollover problem
I have been told that there is an agreement regarding holiday rollover. We are only allowed to carry forward 5 days into new fiscal year. Can you please shed more light on this? thanks

Re: holiday rollover problem
Not really correct, if there are no available slots to take your leave then you can carry over many more............I believe most of my office is running at between 4 and 6 weeks owed over this years entitlement.zx135 wrote:thats correct but only with DOMs agreement and only for 5 days worthasimalone wrote:I have been told that there is an agreement regarding holiday rollover. He asked about the agreement relating carrying over of annual leave not what is happening in your office and the agreement that covers this states 1 week or 5 odd days may be carried over
Also people must be allowed to take the minimum of 4 weeks holiday each leave year regardless of how many leave slots there are

Re: holiday rollover problem
Thanks for your replies, the situation is this, a work collegue has his 4 weeks holiday and has bought 1 week, but for 2 years has only been given his 4 weeks holiday and when he has tried to book his fifth week has been told by management that there are no more weeks available , and this has happened 2 years running , so he now thinks he would be better of having the money, if it was allowed.asimalone wrote:I have been told that there is an agreement regarding holiday rollover. Re: holiday rollover problem
That's not what you said, you can carry over leave if it's not available to take, as for not having enough leave to take yours for the year then that's a problem made by the DOM, there should never be a time when you can't book your allocated leave for the year but all the held over stuff is different (and can be carried over).zx135 wrote:DGP1 wrote:Not really correct, if there are no available slots to take your leave then you can carry over many more............I believe most of my office is running at between 4 and 6 weeks owed over this years entitlement.zx135 wrote:thats correct but only with DOMs agreement and only for 5 days worthasimalone wrote:I have been told that there is an agreement regarding holiday rollover. Re: holiday rollover problem
Be careful if you leave Royal Mail and ask for the holiday pay you think you have rolled over. Human Resources will tell you that you can only carry forward 5 days and that is all they will pay you.DGP1 wrote:Not really correct, if there are no available slots to take your leave then you can carry over many more............I believe most of my office is running at between 4 and 6 weeks owed over this years entitlement.zx135 wrote:thats correct but only with DOMs agreement and only for 5 days worthasimalone wrote:I have been told that there is an agreement regarding holiday rollover. Re: holiday rollover problem
We have been told we can carry over 5 days if we want.
BUT
If we have bought extra annual leave, we cant carry over any - even if it is put in when we don't want it.

Re: holiday rollover problem
Well bought or not that is a load of codswallop, of course you can carry it over, who decides which is the bought week and which the normal entitlement. The first weeks holiday could be the bought one and the 5th the entitled one. It would be just the same if it was a carried over week to the next year, does the first week represent the carried over week or the last week?lala wrote:We have been told we can carry over 5 days if we want.

Re: holiday rollover problem
Easiest way to solve this is to cancel his bought week, if there is no capacity to book it why buy it??wheresourmoney wrote:Thanks for your replies, the situation is this, a work collegue has his 4 weeks holiday and has bought 1 week, but for 2 years has only been given his 4 weeks holiday and when he has tried to book his fifth week has been told by management that there are no more weeks available , and this has happened 2 years running , so he now thinks he would be better of having the money, if it was allowed.asimalone wrote:I have been told that there is an agreement regarding holiday rollover. Re: holiday rollover problem
Also this from The Way Forward
Carrying leave into another year
Annual leave should generally be taken in the year that it is due, and the business expects all employees to have at least four weeks away from work every year. However up to one week (or 5 odd days) may be carried over into the next leave year, and up to five days may be anticipated during the last month of the previous leave year. Transfer of leave in excess of these limits requires written permission from the line manager, except that leave that cannot be taken due to sick leave may be allowed in the following year. Where this is granted and would reduce the annual leave taken in a particular leave year to less than four weeks, the individual must also confirm in writing that they are willing to voluntarily forgo their statutory leave entitlement under the Working Time Regulations 1998.
