Scanning all Amazon Parcels

We got told in WTL that from 17th Nov we have to scan all amazon 24 and 48 parcels. Union have agreed to it. Anyone else heard about this?

Amazon informed Royal Mail unless they could offer this service they would go elsewhere. The simple reason is Amazon have a policy that if anyone claims they have not received their item they send out a new item and claim compensation off Royal Mail. So the scan at the doorstep allows proof of delivery and secures more Amazon parcels which secures jobs.

RMCWU need to grow a spine, the reason that Amazon keep comming back to us is because we perform better than the other companys.....they leave us for a while but are soon back when they realise how many wet -stolen - doorstepped packets the competitors leave behind.
Sure take their money, but the RMCWU should be building in extra duty time for us to complete the task ( actual time....not like the D2D agreement that allows NO time for D2d's to be prep'd except by comming in early or staying late unpaid )

True, plus as has been mentioned several times before, being provided with the correct tool to do the job ie a decent reliable scanning device that actually works.

Amazon are in a strong bargaining postion they did post 200 million items into Royal Mail last year and only 70 million this year. lots of jobs have gone particular in Mail centres? But they will go in DOs.. So Amazon has said they will post more if there is door step scan. So it's easy say no but by doing so you will be saying to someone in the industry you have no longer got a job. No one likes to have Amazon having this power but telling them to get stuffed is a big call.

So is this gonna be a long term commitment that Amazon are going to give us loads of business, if so what's happening to their own courier service they built up will they now be out of work ?

Or is it a temporary measure perhaps for the next 8 weeks or so ?

I couldn't care less who's calling the shots or what they want us to do...as long as it is properly resourced, If it isn't you're not protecting jobs, you're protecting dividends.

Is this the reason our DOM is telling us to get rid of all amazon parcels 1st time even if it means doorstepping them

Amazon don't do long term, they have a computer system that chooses the cheapest courier, for which ever service/destination they need.

That is now the standard since privatisation, there is a duty to provide profits for shareholders,for their (our) dividends. Things can only get better, so they said in 1997. I am still waiting.

How are Amazon claiming compensation on untracked/non-recorded/non-special packets? Anyone else tries that and you get a book of stamps if you're lucky.

RM aren't paying out compensation for that, even if it is Amazon.

I don't blame Amazon doing it as it is too easy to say this item had not arrived. Amazon want proof of delivery. I like it, as it will means it can let me know my parcels arrived if I am on holiday. If this means we get more business from Amazon it is good business. But the problem is 90% of my deliveries from Amazon is done by Amazon Logisitics instead of us.

Scanning might add some time to delivery but as long as the items can go through the letter box, then that is fine. However, for bigger items, that is just more significant workload and time on delivery...

As was mentioned, Amazon have their own delivery staff and we all know the sort of quality of services that some of them offer. It is a bit cheeky that Amazon want to be claiming for non-delivery from Royal Mail - exactly what is non-delivery. Scanned and doorstepped is delivery but that does not mean it has been received?
