how is the skill set spread in your office?

i.e. is it normal to have 2-3 (non floaters/reserves) staff who can prep and deliver anything up to 10 different walks, then on the flip side have about 70% of the workforce only know how to prep 1-2 duties and deliver 1, their own.

How did that 70% of the office get to the position of having their own duty?
Were they ever reserves?
Have they forgotten how to prep other duties?
Given that the vast majority of the mail is walk sequenced is it really relevant now?

In my place, you'd be amazed at the reaction of some staff when asked to prep an 'alien' frame. The whole toy shop gets thrown out the pram.

It is only relevant because people plead ignorance and moan about how much longer it will take them to prep another walk...

Anyway, walkholders are kings/queens; add seniority, weak management (they have the power to use worker more flexibly if they choose or have the balls) and a Union and complicit RM that does not give a stuff about Reserves, that is why it appears to be normal.

Even amongst Reserves seniority and pretend or actual ignorance or lack of knowledge still applies.

I recently had a junior walkholder that expected me to swap rounds because he did not like the delivery method that was put in place for a particular shared/pair walks... This is a junior walkholder that has grown wings and expect a more senior and full time Reserve to bend to his needs and ignorance.

We now have people that have become walkholders within 1 year and 2 years of starting; so their skill sets is low anyway; unlike the seniors that might have forgotten (NOT) but they do work on IPS throwing out every round week in week out - how ironic?

Remember it was royal mail that wanted one man one job i was happy in my section of 3 rotating,its sometimes better knowing less cause u cant get messed about so much , i watch reserves in our office moved up to 4 times in the mornings either because of sickness or management cock ups,no thank u not for me

that I can understand,,,,we seem to have the culture if you can throw your allotted 3 walks in quicker than another you then have to help them.
fair enough but when you have to help the same few that throw the same 3 walks in day after day it begins to get annoying lol
