WTF is a light touch revision?

Post by obscurityknocks »

Since our 1st revision like a lot its been a disaster. Cut offs, bullying, people off with stress and many knee/feet ailments, no one using equipment, spans well over planned spans......the list goes on. Now rep has told us all we will be having a light touch revision. She is having a meeting next week for more info. I'm always a glass half full person but will a light touch revision sort out many of the issues above? Anyone had one of these?

Ahh, a revision to sort the revision. Oh, you must work more efficiently said our planner as he blocked up a row of 8 back to back rm2000 fittings, so no one could take a short cut to their fitting. This company beggars belief.

RM management = this load of fools

Nowt will change till EVERYONE use the equipment. They'll just be concerned about what time people return to office, whether they use equipment or not, and if it's early they'll bang more onto those walks. Whatever happens you have a start and finish time ( they will prob change these as well) and that's it. Let the idiotic runners, early starters, ones that don't take breaks, ones who cut corners and ones who are selfish mess it all up for the rest.

Nail on head.

The more you all rush around trying to get finished 20 mins early, the more this will happen. RM will keep on coming back for those 20 mins. Use the designated equipment, and do the job in your allotted time (if you can).

:Applause
I have a hunch after our protected terms run out RM will introduce clocking in/out cards. See how many rush round then. Finish early and lose pay. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Why would they wait, there is no reason they could not do it now, in fact some have been calling for them for some years now, but RM have always claimed they are impractical. It would also be costly, it will be some years off yet, when RM have finished the MC and DO reviews, after all why put time clocks in building you are going to close down.

This is the only company I have worked for that doesn't use clocking in machines...... I can only see them being impractical to the management as they wont be able to sneak off home early :no no

Agree totally but I suppose i have a similar problem to a lot of people in that I have to pick kids up at 3 from school . I'd love to use trolley , take my breaks etc but practicalities of life don't allow it . Royal Mail know a lot of staff have this problem and use it to they're advantage as they know you have to rush . Don't want to do it but don't have much option .

It wouldn't be that costly, all DO's as far as I am aware have RFID scanners on entry/exit points anyway and I am pretty sure our ID cards have RFID chips in them. And any costs would be recouped by the docking of pay for early finishers.

The reason they do not do it now is simply because it doesn't suit them. They are quite happy with the current arrangement as it gives them an excuse to lapse, lapse and lapse some more.

By not using the equipment that you're supposed to, if you get an injury as a result, RM will throw you to the wolves.

I doubt it's going to be too much longer before RM have all delivery staff doing collections at the end of their walks and they can't be done early so the problem of people finishing early will be dealt with if they do that.

The "idea" isn't to do the collections at the end of your delivery, that would make no sense and would just mean it's a delivery/collection hybrid which we already have. The plan is to collect as you deliver to reduce/remove the need for collection duties altogether.

This mentality is common and is the crux of the problem, rather than doing what you can do "properly" until you have to go and pick your kids up, you have decided to help re-enforce management's false belief on how long delivery spans take.

Not using LWT/HCT (carrying pouches on shoulder): ~2-5mins saving per loop (typically ~30-45mins per duty)
Not filtering mail for next address while stationary at previous doorstep: ~30mins saving per duty
Not giving recipients 1 minute to answer the door for an "attendance call" item: "x" seconds per item
Not using your paid meal relief (or claiming the outdoor section): 0-40mins
Not following paths between addresses: ~5-20 seconds per "cut"

Before we even talk about stuff like starting early, doing the above is making delivery look upto ~3 hours faster than "doing things properly" ... That's ~270 houses that are getting a delivery by the "worst offending OPG"s without correctly being accounted for by the depot budget per day per duty!
