anyone still using bikes out there, if so how the hell do you manage with the increase in packets. I am finding it increasingly difficult to cope with so many.

How do you deliver packet (except for the very small ones ) on a bike? We still gave a couple of bike deliveries but packets/parcels are taken out by a driver.

Yes we're still using bikes. On some days the packages can be the same amount as we expect at Christmas. We don't only take small packets. Some are much bigger than shoe boxes and we get tubes/long items about a metre long and heavy items. Just means going back to office more often. If the weather is bad makes it even more difficult trying to keep stuff dry when the panniers are bulging!

Its not exclusive though. Some, albeit very few, duties have been assessed and cycles have been chosen as the most suitable form of delivery in that particular case.

Two to be precise. Any others still in use will eventually be withdrawn and if necessary replaced with alternative equipment.

Yes we still got bikes in our office in deepest Suffolk! It's getting increasingly difficult to manage the parcels and packets but we get by. Our long-awaited revision was all set to go but was put on hold at the last minute as it didn't save enough money apparently so we still got the bikes for a while yet.

When you have a revision there is what is called a designated driver? How are these chosen?

Our last bikes finally went this year, so pleased about that as it was getting impossible to cope with the parcels size/quantity and meant issues almost every day trying to get some drivers to take some oversize parcels off you - and every one of them would refuse to take anything at all extra on a saturday! I'm not a great fan of van sharing but it's way better than those horrible old rickety bikes, IMO.

We have used HCTs in the past when our bikes were off the road and we had nothing else!! We are in the process of having our bikes taken away and having vans instead. Nothing is set in stone yet but can't see how vans will be cheaper to run than bikes. 3 part time rounds are ? being made into 2 full time rounds and we will work from a DO instead of SPDO. Not looking forward to it.

I dont care what anyone says, packets are increasing ridiculously. My first loop today I had packets for 8 different addresses and reguarly had 4-6 in every pouch and thats excluding all the oversized ones which we had to deliver by van.
