does anyone see, that they have a future with royal mail going forward? in any function?, i'm starting to think of young people coming into this industry, what will their future be? because from where i'm standing, it doesn't look good!!!

i think there is a future but a slimmed down version. be a hard next 2/3 years i fancy and a younger workforce possibly having to buy a round like i believe parcel force just my opinion mind

I think if we have to buy a round and there should be a 3 round group between three postman so we all can cover for each other.

Some routes in Australia and Canada already do it although they tend to be the outback or great white north rurals when they are doing 5,000 miles a week and the Postal work is just a sideline.

There was a time that being a postman or postwoman was a job for life and personally I was actively planning on doing that. I’m not necessarily saying I won’t as I started as a teenager and am I’m knocking on for 30 years’ service now and to be honest I’m not too sure what else I can do. But the job has been going downhill for years and it’s only going to get even worse!

The future of RM is quite scary. Mail is down, parcels are down, even D2D’s seem to be down. I can remember a few years ago chatting to someone on my round and describing RM as a bit like the Titanic and that it was only a matter of time before it hits the iceberg. In my opinion we have now hit it! At the moment the hole is only fairly small and not much water is getting in, but it’s only a matter of time until it’s gushing in and we’ll all be jumping into the lifeboats, if there’s still some left after Moya and the management have jumped ship.

Personally I think the franchise/owner driver route could well be the future and maybe only getting paid when we deliver parcels like these couriers who use their own cars do. Failing that, the future may well be orange, but it won’t be very bright.

If everywhere else is the same,When i look around my MC, i can't help thinking that Royal Mail is in terrible trouble.Virtually zero hours overtime between Monday and Friday indicates just how far the work has dropped off. Personally,i don't feel i have much of a future and can see more jobs coming under fire very shortly.

there is too much backward thinking by upper management, WCM the biggest waste of money ever, but as much is needed is throw at it, while we on the front line are asked to do more for less, managers to manage managers, it a spiral to nothingness, we posties will sacked at our rates and be re employed for minimum wage after the 3 year deal is finished, 1 year has already gone, time to think about moving on.

part-time is all our union want. full-time staff are now the scum of the earth to union headquaters.

I think Royal mail will always be around in some form. Though without doubt it will be leaner and meaner (on the employees) Its such a massive company, but has no real niche and is bobbing around in the middle ground with the uso as a massive millstone round its neck and the regulator failing to see that if the good ship RM goes under so does a large chunk of the unprofitable uk delivery market. It was a service that provided decent jobs all over the country and was quite capable of returning a profit for the government of the day as well.

Sadly true. Like one of my colleages told me, make hay while the sun shines!
