Royal Mail changes delivery schedules in Scissett - less bags more trolleys mean post will arrive later

Changes are under way for postal deliveries in Scissett.

And it will mean mail deliveries into the afternoons for some homes.

Royal Mail postmen and women are now using vans and trolleys to deliver letters and a growing numbers of parcels to customers in the HD8 postcode area as part of a modernisation programme.

Royal Mail said they will continue to deliver in the morning but also for a longer period during the day. Many customers will continue to get their mail by lunchtime, but the time customers receive mail will depend on where they live on the new delivery route and this may be later or possibly earlier than current delivery time.

A spokesman said the changes had been made to maintain its services to the area, all local postmen and women would continue delivering in the area and there were no job losses.

It means that postmen and women, who now handle a mix of letters and more parcels, will use trolleys instead of the traditional over the shoulder satchels and two postmen will share vans to deliver items together in an area.

In Scissett, Royal Mail has invested in seven new vans and 15 trolleys to enable postmen and women to deliver the mail more efficiently.

Delivery director Gary Milne said: “We are proud of the high regard in which our postmen and women are held in Scissett. The changes to delivery routes will mean that a member of our local and experienced team will still be delivering to our customers in Scissett.

“The local delivery team and I are fully committed to providing a high quality of service that is as reliable and friendly as customers have come to expect from Royal Mail in Scissett over many years.”

We also introduced 9-day fortnights for 100% of duties, increased full-time jobs from 18 to 20 and the total number of duties from 32 to 33.

As Area CWU Rep, I've just been back to the office over the last couple of days, and everyone is quite happy with their Long Weekend and '1-in-4' Saturdays off. Every four weeks they finish delivery on Thursday and don't come back to work until the following Wednesday. Result.

That would suit me more than floating week off system :( as I can do Salsa congresses weekenders. it is hard with current system.
