rumours are rife that tnt are opening a depot in birmingham in november, and they are not only going to deliver all tnt letters but "uk mail " too. any info on this? this will amount to a massive amount of our letters being lost. also by me tnt are delivering d2d . and they will massively undercut us on this too

There's already cooperation between the DSA companies so not only going to deliver all tnt letters but "uk mail " too is quite possible.

not sure mate ,,,,,,is walsall in birmingham ,,,,,,,if it is then yes it will
think is hs2 is coming to Birmingham and the route means uk mail will have to move
their new place is earmarked in coventry which is in warwickshire but its irrelavant anyway

its all about inevitablity , natural progression and money

the next natural step for them will be to roll the same thing out to other major citys
bham is the 2nd biggest city so that will be next
meaning the effect on birmingham mailcentre will be enormous

and the move for full time postmen at the D owes to become part time

my understanding is East and South East London will be next. I am also aware that Birmingham is going to be next with up to 5 offices 2 of which are by the NEC.

Then Glasgow , Bristol and Edinburgh.

The really stark that is by 2016/17 TNT has a business plan to cover 42% of the UKs addresses but that will mean that TNT is only in operation in 8% of the total UK which shows how houses are in the big built up areas. Clearly Royal Mail will left with falling revenue in the cities and a more costly USO.

Wont cover walsall as they only go to postcodes that are seperated by postcodes ie M / L / HA , NW . W etc , so B would be possible but not WS WV

But will it be all of the B postcode, including the leafy suburbs of Solihull and little villages like Barston?

They won't be trying too hard except to recruit them of course. There may even be an amalgamation with the CWU and Community Union favoured by TNT employees, there seems to be a meeting of minds on the relationship between management and union.

What I don't understand is why would a business in todays world set up a letters delivery service? With letters in long term decline it seems madness to invest money into a shrinking business model. Cause once TNT have fully expanding into all the areas they want to deliver to theres only one direction there business can go, and thats down. Having to do what RM do and manage the declining letters and the rising costs associated with physical delivery. Surely it would have been better to invest in parcels, you only have to look at Royal mails shift into Different delivery methods to adapt to the shift from letters to parcels.

You would be right if they were coming into the market on the same terms as Royal Mail but they are not. TNT have 24% of the DSA market and unless they go into partnership with say Uk mails will not grow anything more.

They have a clear strategy and in the 3 cities they are operating in currently have taken over 10% of the whole of UKs delivered Mail total in less than 2 years.

They only have to deliver to these addresses 3 days per week and can decide what they put into the Royal Mail system and what they deliver themselves.

They pay just £7:10 pence per hour less then the living wage and employ people on zero hour contract and unless your a driver you don't are part time.

Their strategy is to go to only 8% of the UK but within that 8% they will be able to deliver to 42% of the whole UK addrsses. They do not have the added costs of delivering to the 29 million UK addresses where there is no margin for them , they simply can use Royal Mail for this.

Now I am not trying to scare anyone as those of us who experience it are concerned enough , how much more than 10% loss of work will it take until either Off comm wake up to the threat or that the USO cannot survive and whilst the cities will get two deliveries per day 1 from Royal Mail and 1 from TNT the rurals and towns end up getting a service twice or three times per week ?
