Summer Lapsing

Any ideas how long this will last ?
12 months + ??as its called summer lapsing (The clue being the term summer)

I think it is a great idea just like Bob Gibson ,wonderful idea, think every postie should absorb at least half a round each every day and Saturdays and Tuesdays 2 rounds each .
Lapsing etc. is a brilliant idea and excellent which everybody who does not have to do or has ever done it knows it is good.

All we have to do now is to get every Manager and CWU Reps and Mega size rounds and now summer absorption for only 1 week and let them tell us how good it is !!

I totally agree with you just be thankful weve got a job so lets be treated like s**t , right back in the real world yes we started lapsing in jan and finished in nov last year , same again started in jan so they want more now during june to august as the dom has been told to save another 5% and they just want everybody to work there hours , but you try telling them you only want to work your contracted hours . by the way me and my mate start on time , take meal breaks , use lwt , so we shall see.

Nope it sucks. We all know it sucks.

The summer used to be the only time that the job eased off a touch (swings and roundabouts)but now you have to fill your paid hours. However if you want to be paid a full weeks hours then this is the only choice being offered. Its a tough world out there right now and the CWU know this and are trying to protect our paid hours.

How long will it last ? As long as your manager can get away with it, prob up to Christmas if you are in a weak office. People need to stop getting in early, start taking meal breaks etc and cut off if it pushes them over their paid time.

Exactly you're body sometimes got the benefit of some lighting days in summer etc,,which was a relief. They don't care .

When your traffic is below your model week.
If your traffic is never below your model week, then either you chose a bad model week or it needs revisiting.
Or you will never be lapsing.

Totally agree, it's what was proposed in my d/o for summer resourcing but got told there wasn't enough time to organise it properly

what makes laugh is you've got the dim saying we can lapse as its below the model week , but in there world everybodys duty gets the same mail , pkts , parcels and d2ds , but in the real world in our office we have people finishing a 1 hour or 1.30 before me and my mate , so it doesn't work in our office as its tits up . but it gets swept under the carpet as usual. our indoor work is spot on as we have been prep tested but he makes excuses to test the outdoor when we keep asking.

and how does that work when your model week was planned with 70 fulltimers & now you have 64 & you have lost 8 32 hour postmen & they have been replaced by 8 20 hour bag carriers?

There seems to be lots of people on here with a big misconception what summer lapsing is and what it is for, as part of the agreement that brought in summer lapsing there were several different parts,

Summer lapsing is used to lapse duties in the summer weeks to allow extra holiday slots so more posties can take their annual leave in the summe

Covering for each other, is the part that allows lapsing at any time of the year to cover for absence in the delivery office, ie sick etc

make sure you rep is insisting that the lapsing in the summer weeks is allowing extra posties off on leave if it is just being used to cover sick leave etc then it is not summer lapsing, summer lapsing was part of that agreement that is to our benefit not for the managers savings

Out of 75 deliveries ... 7 lapsing daily from next month in our DO.

I don't mind lapsing but we are NOT getting out on time. Our own duties are busier than ever so the collapsed duty has also grown. This lapsing now takes over half hour before you start your own duty.
The pathetic pda's add half hour to anyones days as well. We need more MANAGEMENT of the system not do nothing managers.

I have a cunning plan....
Since the majority of scope for lapsing comes from reduced indoor workload the business should restrict summer leave opportunities to full time members of staff(like me for instance) thus reducing the core indoor hours and improving the EP during the quieter summer months.
