RM conning us out of money

Post by eastie »

Every week we go over most days on P/L but don't mind doing an hour but no more.
But this week on a short week they want us to do 7 D2D's + lapsing and election literature and NOT claim for going over, PLUS ITS MY SHORT DAY ON A TUESDAY :no no
Even though I go over most days the Dom is saying I cannot claim for going over because we are delivering election literature !!!
So he is saying because I am claiming £6 for 150 election items(we get 4p per item) delivered to houses we are delivering our D2D's to, we can't claim 1 hours docket as usual.
Can they do this??
If they can I'm cutting off. They can't have their cake and eat it

If you go over your time because of election material then you can't claim.
If you go over because the duty is too long and you usually claim or because traffic levels are over your model week, then you can claim.

There is a letter on here about it.
I'm sure someone will find it before me.

Dear Bob

I’m happy to confirm that we take exactly the same view on the extended delivery issue. The unit payments mean we don’t pay overtime for the election material or poll cards but if the volume of ‘non-election material’ workload requires overtime then yes that should be paid in the normal way. The fact that we make election material unit payments on the day does not mean there can be no extended delivery overtime.

Andy and I can make this clear to colleagues.

On your second point you’re right we do recognise there may be occasions where the volume of poll cards and other mail mean is it simply not possible to maintain the full product service specification. But we have to be careful about how we can say this in our communications. We ask people to do all they reasonably can and if having done so some poll cards fall back to the next delivery we would not withhold the unit payment. As you say we will be pragmatic where necessary. I sent the words in red below to our heads of IR in response to a request for clarity on what DOMs should do in the event that volume made it impossible to clear the poll cards on one day.

While we make every effort to meet these service standards there are occasions when volumes make this impossible and some fall into the next delivery. We do not intend to withhold unit payments in the event of this happening.

At our office if we would normally leave 2 loops then we can either cut off the normal 2 loops or book docket for the normal 2 loops, we can't claim extra or cut off more because of election stuff.

You do not have to work overtime,I leave enough behind so I finish on time,I suggested that it would be better if I took it all out then rang up at an agreed time so somebody could come out and do my cut off but the managers don't want this as it might involve them having to do it so what we do is try and judge the correct amount to leave so we don't go over,it seems to work fairly well.

Another suggestion (what I have done) is to inform your manager that if you go over your time, you expect either to be paid the O/T or you take the time back as time owing. That means you would start later on your next working day i.e. you went over 1 hour on the Wednesday so you start 1 hour later on Thursday. Basically it isn't an unreasonable suggestion & offers an alternative solution.

That wouldn't work with P/L

So what happens if you get say, 30% of the office doing this?

That will be 30% less on IPS the following day, which will mean delivery will go out later the following day, which will mean 30% will be finishing late AGAIN, resulting in 30% less on IPS the following day ad naseum.

Also, what about part timers only working three days a week?

Sorry, non starter!

My lino has tried this as well, although after some discussion it was agreed that I and others would be booked and paid o/t on non-election excess. It seems to be something they are trying on, an attempt at a blanket ban on genuine o/t (on the spurious premise that all o/t must be election stuff) while the election material is being worked and being paid separately on top of usual money.

Non addressed election material.......prep n deliver with that days d2d.....any excess can not blamed on said material......this is do-able coz been told we have seven days for unaddressed items
addressed election material......been told we have 3 days for these.....prep n deliver only where you have live mail for 2 days, and box them all off on the 3rd day....any excess can not be blamed on said material
