Overtime cut for summer

Heard today that overtime for the summer is to be cut.
So instead of 6 hours for a full walk and 3 for a half it's going to be 5 hours and 2 and a half.
Is this a normal thing in the summer due to less mail or just another cost cutting measure?

The normal thing is to be paid for 1 hour if you do 1 hour of overtime and 4 hours if you do 4 hours and so on.
It is called working all your paid hours. It is part of the 2007 agreement.
Your area might catch up soon.

Just knock the overtime back, our office is run on overtime, pretty sure they'd change their rates back to 6 hours after a day or two

They tried this in my office 2 years ago and everyone refused to do overtime. Now we still have 8hours for a full walk and 4 for half. Trust me if you take this it won't just be a summer thing, you'll never get your normal rate back. Remember absorption was supposed to be a summer thing and look how they abused that.

Its normally because they attach a element of absorbtion to the summer duty which is not included in the overtime.

The best thing to do is call a meeting and have your rep explain the situation. After that its up to the strength of your members to refuse to cover OT. Trouble is one or two will always mop up.

If you are paid 4 hours for half a walk, do you do 4 hours overtime?

No we don't but when on overtime we ain't going to work 2 hours for 2 hours pay. If I work 2 hours overtime then 4 hours is what I want. Not worth my time otherwise, most jobs pay better rate or more hours for overtime so why should we have to work an hour for an hour when it makes us physically tired.

Because we have a national agreement that says - work all your paid hours - and because when people make special circumstances for themselves they undermine the union.
Are you part of our union and do you abide by our national agreements or are you a special case?

I know what the earlier post means in most jobs if you work ot you get an enhanced Rate but with rm you don't so therefore if you work 2 hrs you should get something for doing it or what's the point???

That's exactly why managers usually agree a fixed number of hours for OT. Nobody who does OT in my office would take say half a walk and have to finish near 6pm to be paid the 3 hours. They just wouldn't do it, then managers would be fubared.

RM will pay as little as it takes to get the job done, but people aren't exactly lining up to do OT these days. Our 3 regulars were all off a few weeks ago and the managers couldn't cover the walks as nobody else does any OT.
