ridiculous starting times

i am a part time postie and every since our office had the revision last year. we have had our starting times changed every couple of months. the recent starting times are retarded. i now start on monday a 7am tue 7.15am wed thur fri 7.50am sat 8.25am. i have complained to the managers but they basically say its not there problem

for some bizare reason we are given more time on the mon tue for prep and half the time i finish early if we go back to the office we get punished with extra work

on wed thur fri sat i come into the office with about 6-8 trays of mail 2 sacks of parcel and a does of door to doors to make up if i complain to the manager about my frame needing more prep on the later starting days he just shrugs his his shoulders and says it my problem.

i now have to work my arse of to try and finish on time the guy i work with and me are both very quick we both come back pishing with sweat we normally finish on our time just but thats with us basically running round the whole round. i have tried leaving a loop behind recently because we are sick of nearly killing ourselfs to finish on time but the manager just freaks out at us.

the stupid starting times would be okay if had more mail preped for us but we get the same amount of prep ever day of the week. do most offices now have different starting times ever day or is it our office is extra s**t?

1 i dont understand the whole problem with the starting times, you havent really made it clear why its a problem
2 you finish some workload and get back to office early, i dont call being given extra work being "punished". I assume you have contracted hours ? you should be prepared to work them.
3 manager shrugging to you about having too much work to do and saying its not "his" problem. Well either you can complete in your duty time or you cant, if you cant then it WILL be the managers problem when you cut off your delivery.
4 you are not expected to, nor should you be running around your delivery. Not only is this unfair on you, it is unsafe practise. You should be working at a steady fair pace. If you feel you have too much work the procedure is to inform the manager you dont feel you will complete before you leave the office. If he tells you to take all the loops, then that is what you do, and bring back anything you dont have time to deliver.
5 our office has shorter days on the lighter days, Sat, Mon, Tue and longer days on Wed-Fri. The start time is always the same, but the finish time is earlier / later.

Sounds like youre generally working in a crappy office, wheres your union rep ? are you a member ?

I was runnig around like mad to keep in time but....
1. Is it you who makes decisions about start and finish times?
2. Who will be resposible for my twisted or dislocated ankle because of running and shortcutting?

What I am doing.

Take your time. Do your job properly because you will be the one who sets the time for relief postie and he might be blamed for doing his job longer than you!

In our office we do not have to make DOM avare of possible OT. You just do your job till it is done. Hour or three on docket DOM does not care unless job is done!

That is over those heads who manage to plan our job to one minute. Say start at 8:25 and finish at 14:34! Really? Why: 34? !!!

So overall my opinion. I am not paid for solving someones misjudgement!

i alway seem to get hassle when trying to claim over time and the managers just harress us if we complain about anything. they are very quick to issue conduct code warning for the slightest complaint i nearly got one for not closing a letter box properly. to be honest i think one of the managers has some sort of personal grudge against me for some bizzare reason

i think its unfair that we have more time on mon tue to do our deliverly so we finish early and have a choice of hiding in the van or doing part of someone elses job. it also annoying there are 4 manager sitting on there arses doing nothing getting paid more than us waiting for us to come back and give us more work. i mean why cant they do some work for once do they really need 4 of them sitting doing f**k all day

its also annoying how some of the other posties can leave loops with no hassle in our office. but if we try we get a manager turning purple shouting at us and if we leave with mail we get told we must deliver all of it or get into trouble for willfull delay of mail so that isnt a option

just a thought, maybe the managers know you are finishing early and hiding in the van, where as the other posties are not rushing and finishing at their time, hence you have time to do extra work and the others dont, hence why you are getting more work to make you work your full hours,

its not being unfair to ask you to work the hours you are being paid for, it is unfair of you to want to work less than your hours and hide that fact and expect to be paid for a full shift

follow the correct cutting off procedure and you cannot be done for wilful delay

You are going to get lots of grief from the managers, and they are going to push you as hard as they can, but ultimately there is only one sure way of getting things sorted. You have to know the rules, requirements and procedures completely and use them to the letter and there is only person you can rely on - you.

If you want it sorted you have to do something, you have to take a risk and put your head above the parapet, The Union should, and I hope will support you, but it is up to each and every single person who thinks they are wronged in any way to take the first step. Unfortunately you and your colleague have made a rod for your own backs and having completed before without claiming overtime on most occasions its going to be even harder for you, but if you want it to change the responsibility for starting it comes down to

I got put with a "runner "the other day. To appease him, I upped my usual "normal" speed to his. He was driving round with seatbelt permanently plugged in so it wouldn't beep, breaking speed limits and chancing amber lights. After 9 loops we got back to the office 5 minutes before we should officially finish. He was so pleased with himself. Then he said he was going home to bed for a couple of hours. I told him if he took his time he would be able to spend more time with his family rather than sleeping. He looked at me like I had 2 heads.

and deliver MOST items before people went to work, happy days, so why as a Business are we driving later start times, leave in safe place (whats that all about) deliver to a Neighbour, or any other Instruction that the sender stipulates, Integrity of the Mail needs a MASSIVE OVERHAUL in my opion, that said jack s**t will happen until it been discussed at a strand group or other and then and only then it will have to go thru the PEC and then back to the strand group for more discussion then back!!!!!!!!!!!! oh s**t I have got lost in my own post, oh yes the LTB confirming everything is okey dokey

If you rush around ad work like mad to get it done then why would they change you're times when you complain? You're making it work. Stop rushing, have a break and cut off and then point out the fact it's not working. You can't complete and then tell a manager it doesn't work.
