Anyone here from Croydon?

Without wanting to go into too much detail, at this stage, was told today that Amazon had started delivering their own packets in the Croydon area and had cut us out completely. This has, supposedly, left Croydon with an enormous drop in workload.

Now I’m somewhat sceptical because I reckon these boards would have been bouncing off the walls by now, if this was the case, but can anyone shed any light on this? Hopefully, someone can deny it, and make me feel a whole lot better.

Think they are delivering in other places like Bromley etc.

I don't really understand their logistics at all. We have had delivers (orders from amazon) by their own service as well as royal mail It seems to be pretty inconsistent as far as I can tell.

Colleague of mine had a parcel from amazon delivered yesterday by a white van man bexley area.

Manager went round today asking how many amazon parcels we had, only 3 in our office DA9/DA10 looks like Royal Mail have lost the contract

Again? I have to say that they are probably using other carriers such as DPD who delivered a large Amazon box to me today. At 8.00 am I was given an hour slot for the delivery, the name of the driver, a map with the location of the vehicle throughout the day and an updated delivery time, the number of my parcel in delivery order and which number parcel he was delivering at the time of checking. Now seriously which company would you choose if you were running a business - RM or DPD - then of course there is YODEL who charge a minimal amount for a minimal service.

No where near Croydon or Bexley but today, on my day off, had a white van man deliver an Amazon envelope, well within Large Letter dimensions, containing just an A4 sized 48 paged booklet and weighing in total just 144g.

Well that possibly explains that today, I saw 3 separate incidents of blatant door-stepping. 2 were Amazon large boxes and one was in an open porch 15 feet from a footpath, as was the other non-Amazon box. The other Amazon box had at least been hidden round the corner in a recess in the open porch. All 3 cases though would have us RM posties being a$$-raped in the DOM's office. Paying drivers on a 'piece work' basis is asking for aggro. Yodel seem to be so bad they should deliver on horseback with 10-gallon hats on. As a customer I prefer RM any day - and that's BEFORE I worked for them.

Amazon have been delivering in our area (South East Essex) for months now and have already moved to a bigger depot since starting. They cheery-pick what they deliver and what they pass on to us and other couriers, definitely been a large reduction in Amazon deliveries in our office.

Also note that Amazon Prime (yearly subscription for next day delivery) has seen a large price increase from £49 (?) to £79, granted this does now include streaming of film and tv series but i wonder if it's more to pay for losses made on delivery

They certainly will cheery-pick what they deliver and what they pass on to us and other couriers but how ?
Will they do the big cities and leave Royal Mail with the Highlands and Islands, or they do certain sizes and weights and leave us with the rest ?
I was just surprised today when Amazon used a white van for little packet you or I could post First Class for 90p and they, with PPI, could get Royal Mail to deliver for perhaps about 60p.

a lad in a van stopped me and asked for directions,,,he was delivering amazon book and dvd sized boxes,,,,,this is in the north west so think its wide spread.
but were still delivering a heck of a lot of amazon stuff from our office

Wouldn't have thought it would be too hard to have a system that works out the deliveries per area and if it's cost effective, ie new dvd/game release with multiple drops they will deliver themselves same dvd/game a week later with fewer calls give it to RM.

I am an Amazon Prime member and previously 90% of my items would come via RM, now it's 90% Amazon with RM getting very few of the remaining 10%

I used to work for Yodel. We delivered shed loads of Amazon parcels. They use a variety of courier services to get them delivered. One courier service wouldn't be able to cope with the volume of parcels they send out daily.
