Relocation

Hi I'm about to start working as a postie. I am living with parents at the moment and got a postie job here. My partner lives away and we want to get a house together eventually where he works. Can anyone tell me how long you have to be working for Royal Mail to get relocated? And do you have to wait for a job to come up within that area or is it just internally agreed for relocation? It's also only a 6 month contract but the guy at interview said contract always get extended. Will I not be able to relocate if I'm on a temporary contract?

I think there is a minimum time period you have to working for RM (maybe 6 months?) but I could be wrong.

As for the actual transfer 'process' itself, well it's non-existent.. you have to do all the work yourself by contacting the relevant D.O.'s and letting them know of your wish to move, then you will have to wait for a vacancy to come up, they certainly won't just create one for you.

And don't rely on the internal job alerts system as it is useless, there have been examples of vacancies being advertised to the general public that aren't even advertised on the internal system. Good luck!

You can only get a transfer if you are on a permanent contract and even then there is no guarantee you will be offered one. You would need to be given a permanent contract at your current office before you can try for a transfer.

i am on a temp contract how long did you have to wait before you got your move ? as I am looking to move
