just been thinking, with conflict up and down the country with managers about how long it should take to do a delivery(they always think it can be done quicker), why isn't something put in place to test the walk, with both managerial grades and union reps both testing the walk together( and indoor), isn't that the simple solution???

The root of the problem at Royal mail isn't the managers. neither is it the union. Its the employees who continue to rush around not doing the job the required way. They come in way before their start time. They don't take breaks etc and then they wonder why the jobs gone to pot!! Then they wonder why we have tons of d2ds and laspsing.
They get home knackered unable to enjoy their free time.... how sad. I would urge all employees to start on time, take your full breaks, get out on delivery at the agreed time and finish at the agreed time...its as simple as that. Royal mail only survives on the gullible goodwill of its workers.

What is the only reason we have lapsing? ....answer ....Because everyone rushes like mad to get finished. Slow down ,take your time ,start at your contracted time and finish at your contracted time. The jobs been ruined by the workers....no one else!

Here we go again, the original question had nothing to do with starting early or running around. Many that do the job properly will tell you managers still argue about their delivery spans.

There used to be, or at least there was in my office. Years ago I tested proposed walks with our office rep, who then altered them as needed. It worked perfectly and all the walks were achievable.

Then they spent a fortune on georoute/planners that couldn't plan how to walk through an open door. All the walks needed changing by us anyway.

Reps should be helping to sort out walks that are clearly too long.

The reason why managers wont go out and test deliverys is because most would go over there time if done properly .Our last revision up to that point only about 5 dutys were going over there time (guys doing job properly )but when dutys were tested 99% of the dutys went over there time .So that's why they wont come out the PO know this .So they hit you with traffic figures which im not a believer in ,the sequenced mail is close to what they say you are getting but the rest of the mail is way of the mark .I would love to see the clock in clock out system brought in ,ive asked about this at teamtalks management say union wont allow it in ?any reps out there !!!

well said that man,they bark on about doing the rounds safetly and of course securely,but shock horror that may well take longer,and will use that when you get found not locking your van or trolly.then show us how to do it,safetly and securely then,then we will see how long it takes etc etc.and so the argument rumbles on.happy to catch us out and make a big thing of it,rather than have a debate about it and other local issues,in wtl,this doesn't effect you blah blah !!

It's more like if there are too many people cutting off and he has to pay too much O/T he stops lapsing

There is some kind of mystical governing force for lapsing in our office as well.

However, doing the job properly means I don't have time to do lapsing unless I leave part of my own duty in - Linos and DIMs have tried to tell me otherwise but I'm not really listening as I'm too busy doing van checks, setting up my trolley, methodically prepping that day's D2D's or taking my break.
