told by our d.o.m earlier this week,,,,that from next week tnt start mail deliverer in our area.

he said in Manchester were tnt deliver,,,mail has dropped off for royal mail,,,that much so that a thursaday is like a Tuesday for mail,,,,,and postmen there are asking for more lapsing to fill there hours,,,,, is that part a wind up or do things get that bad when tnt move in?

hes asked us to start counting the mail from Monday,,,anything with a tnt mark on it

sounds cushy for them just delivering clean same sized a5 letters and no bigbooks, packets or screwfix / toolstation catalogs! wish they'd take those off us! p.s chuffing makro, national holidays and tesco as well

There clearly isn't enough work for both companies.
For every postman TNT put on the streets, Royal Mail will almost certainly lose a job.
Probably MCs will bear the brunt of it, but DOs will suffer as well.
Your model weeks go out the window if you suddenly lose 10% of your letter traffic.
And what's to stop them taking UK Mail etc.

If they roll out their delivery operations quickly, then I think there will be panic in RM, and panic never bodes well for the troops.

TNT have been delivering in my neck of the woods for a couple of weeks. It'll be interesting to see how it goes and what is actually going on re TNT

For every postman TNT put on the streets, Royal Mail will almost certainly lose a job.
Probably MCs will bear the brunt of it, but DOs will suffer as well.
Your model weeks go out the window if you suddenly lose 10% of your letter traffic.
And what's to stop them taking UK Mail etc.

If they roll out their delivery operations quickly, then I think there will be panic in RM, and panic never bodes well for the troops.

If that isn't already happening then it's close particularly because Ofcom has made it clear that they aren't going to intervene to stop TNT etc until RM can prove that it has done everything it can to make itself more efficient.

You won't be able to work for TNT if they ever outgrew RM - they won't want to be unionised, they pay shameful wages. The only way we'd realistically stop these access mail companies is refuse to handle their mail - they couldn't afford in a million years to provide 6-day delivery to ALL UK addresses and their customers would get fed up with them only being able to deliver to a few urban areas. It will happen, I predict, a refusal to handle access mail.

If push came to shove, we would have no choice. I hope sincerely it doesn't get to that stage and OFCOM are on the ball as regards the damage this unfair cherry-picking will do if allowed to continue unchecked.
